I new to the site and I have a fawn boxer but what makes a boxer a flashy fawn or a flashy brindle? I tried looking it up with no luck... some please set me straight :)

I was told that my brindle is "flashy" because she has white markings that go all around the back of her neck and has the big white stripe up the front of her face and around her nose. My Jake has just a very tiny thin line of white up his nose (which seems to be disappearing as he gets older), a white chest and white boots. But he has no white around his neck and mostly a black mask so i'm told he's not flashy. I think this is correct but I'm sure you'll get some great answers from the knowlegable people on this board. I'll be interested to read if I have it right or not.

Yes, flash refers to the extent of white markings a dog has. Exactly where the line is drawn between "flashy" and "non-flashy" is always open to debate. Personally I'd call a dog with a large amount of white (ie. chest, face and legs) flashy irrespective of whether or not it also has a white collar. Not surprisingly, the difficulty of deciding where to draw that line often gives rise to a third category - semi flashy :)

gmacleod, ok now your answer begs a question from me. Coco is brindle with white chest, chin and toes and a black mask. No white on the back of her neck or her face (obviously). So...would you consider her a plain brindle? I had decided that's what category she would fall in but was never quite sure. What do you think? You can see pics of her in my gallery. I'm just curious. Thanks.

Thanks

Hey guys, Thanks so much, I have been wondering for quite some time. My baby has four white paws, big white chest,a tiny stripe up her nose, and a white collar that goes all the way around her neck except for about an inch on the back of her neck. would she be considered flashy???

I believe the AKC determines Flash to be ANY white markings on an otherwise fawn or brindle coat, and flash should NOT exceed more than 1/3 of the dogs body.

Coco would be considered plain brindle, I believe. A white collar around the neck would be considered flashy in most circles...

Adorable little doll you have there!! :D
