We take Sumi camping often and are looking forward to Casper's first camping adventure this summer! Before we go, we make sure she has been tick and flea dropped (we use frontline, it doesn't wash off). After one trip when she cut her paw on a can lid in a river, we also now get a list of vets in the area with emergency hours from our vet before we leave. We bring extra tennis balls for fetching. I also bring a bag of treats because I find that sometimes Sumi doesn't want to eat in the morning because she gets too excited about the day in the woods, so I can make sure she has something in her stomach before we go.

We also review come, sit, down, stay and heel beginning a few weeks before a trip so that we know that she remembers all of the "rules" she must follow.

Thanks everyone!! Well, now I am all excited. I will print out all your replies so that I will have everything prepared. Unless it is going to be cold & rainey...he is going! Hey, if it's cold & rainey...I won't be going either :)! The only thing that really bothers me is that this will be a long trip, something like 6-7 hr drive & Chance will be in a crate in the back of the truck. Guess we will just have to make several stops for potty & leg streches! Thanks again for all your wonderful advise! Oh' one more question on the benadryl. I am not too familiar with it since I don't have allergies. Does it come in a liquid form or just a pill? How much would you give a dog? Ok another question..Chance is on reveloution and has been since we got him. Will this guard him from ticks & fleas? Oh' one more..(sorry) the first aid kit, can you buy it at a pet store ie: Petsmart? Thanks again.

I think that revolution is supposed to guard against fleas ticks and heart worms, but my vet pulled my dogs off of it because they found that it wasn't protecting pets against heartworm as the marketing materials claimed it would. We're back to Frontline and Heartguard pills. I would check with your vet. I think ours isn't using revolution anymore but this it was August when he told us to stop using it, so maybe it has been improved since then.

We adopted Chance from LSB Rescue and that is what Sil had him on. This is my first dog so I went with what she told me. The vet never said a word about switching to something else. Considering how much it costs...it should protect them from EVERYTHING!!!! Chance will go back to Vet in May and I will ask him about it. If there is something better, then I want my baby to have the best!!! Thanks for the info. and I will look into it.
