Camping supplies for the Boxers

So we are taking the boxers up on their first camping trip in the mountains this Memorial weekend. I'm trying to make up a list of things I should take so I thought I would enlist your guys help!

30 foot leads
harnesses
life jackets (i think there is a lake)
first aid kit
benedryl
food (can't forget that)
tick and mosquito repellent (any brand suggestions?)

My boxer has her own camping chair...she loves to lay in it around the campfire. No...she is NOT spoiled.

I was going to suggest a chair, chaise, or towel to lay on. Maybe a cushion or their bed for the tent. When we take emma camping, we place her bed in between our two cots so it's kind of familiar to her. The bags for cleaning up poop. Sunscreen - emma is light fawn but her belly is white and she likes laying on her back in the sun. A comb to brush out any hitchhikers - plants, ticks, etc. That's about all I can think of - for now.

I'm so glad you started this thread!! We are going camping in Yellowstone in July, and I am already starting to figure out what to take. It will be the first time we have taken dogs w/ us camping, so it should be an experience!!!

I would also suggest something to sit/lay on. Coco has to have her own chair around the campfire Also, I don't how warm it will be but a bandanna to get wet & put around their necks helps to keep them cool too. It's always sweltering hot here in the summer so I always think of things like that.

Camping

I camp alot in the Rocky Mountains with my boxer Tyson. One of the best things I have for her is this blinking refelctor that attaches to her collar. It lets me know where she is when it gets dark out. I would also take a towel for your dog to wipe them off and bug spray. I usually spray a bandana and tie it around her neck.

Oh, I am so jealous. My husband and I worked in Yellowstone Nat'l Park for the summer in '99, when we were still dating. WE LOVED IT! And I really miss being out there. : (

Definitely don't forget the pooper scooper bags. And lots of fresh water. And maybe a favorite chew toy for familiarity. You're going to have so much fun. : )

Oh, and don't forget the sunscreen!

A pair of tweezers for removing ticks.
Even though you use repellant and flea and tick medication - they do still burrow in to the skin and tweezers are the only way to remove the whole thing.

Doggie canteen – We like the kind that’s round, has a strap and the 2 parts sort of screw together. Like a bowl and a lid.

Heads up on the leash laws. I was ticketed for letting my dog swim in the lake without his leash in a state park. When he was on shore he had a leash on but when he went in the water I took it off. The DNR officer was a real jerk!! He said that if I’d of let him drag the leash behind him (even if I didn’t have a hold of it) it would have been OK. It’s been years ago and I was young and dumb but it still irks me when I about it.

What sort of flea/tick repellant is best? we're taking Rocco camping in August and i'm very woried about the misquitoes. Rocco had heartworms and had to be treated so I'm really worried to the point that we're considering not going. He's fine now and of course he's up to date on his preventative meds, too. We love camping though and would hate to never bring Rocco camping out of fear that something bad will happen to him! Anyone have any opinions on what is best to use? And for sunscreen, do you use normal "human" sun screen?
