I got this from seeing a commercial similar to this today......

How many of you have ever called your boxer on the phone so that he/she could hear your voice on the answering machine?
I'm not sure I would have ever admitted to this one until I saw something like this on a commercial today!

I haven't actually done this yet, but I voted yes because Jesse sometimes calls and leaves them messages when he's at work. They always stop and listen to his voice.

I have called if we are out for a while and "spoke" to the fur babies on the answering machine. But now every time I leave the house I return to find the phone off the hook. I don't know if they are looking in the receiver for me or trying to call me.....

Oh yes, I do this! Right now, the dog's dad is out of town for a few weeks, and I have been playing messages with his voice for them. It's so funny, they get excited and run to look out the window!

As a trainer I would never advise anyone to do this as it can only contribute to separation anxiety and/or cause stress and confusion for your dog.

I vote a resounding NO!

I have never done that. Draco had a seperation anxiety problem--and I didnot want to trigger it off by calling and moreover everytime the phone used to ring Draco used to do his woo woo song in a very sad way. And Argos is ok in his crate so I don't have to call him.
But when I was at the hospital and Babu was st home with Draco I had left a message for Drac Man.

Hey Tulsa Dan -
Thanks for that info - good point and something that I am sure will help someone.
Although all this is meant in fun, I had never thought about that being something that could exacerbate a very serious condition! None of our boxers have ever had a problem with seraration anxiety, but I have heard others discuss it here, and sounds like it can be very emotionally taxing.
Hope not to have offended anyone

No, I've never called Clara in the middle of the day. I don't know why not....just never thought about it. For some reason she gets excited when the phone rings. She hears it and starts running around for no reason. I'd be afraid of what'll happen if I call to talk to her.
