Calling all flying boxers!

We have to take Dozer or ship him back to the states soon! I am just wondering how many of you had flown your babies and which airline/company you used to do it? I am looking for the positives and negatives so don't hold back on my account...

His safety is my #1 Priority but I am sure you all know about that motherly stuff!

I was stationed in Germany and brought a female boxer back to the states with me. I flew Delta and decided to fly her on the same flight as me that way we would get to the airport at the same time. I flew a cat on a animal charter and had a lot of problems. He got held up by customs in Philadelphia and they tried to keep him over night. He left 4 hours before me and arrived in Columbus Ohio 6 hours after I landed. Let's just say that was an emotional experience for me and needless to say he was scared to death. So, I would recommend trying to fly commercial and take them with you on the same flight. I can't remember exactly how much it costed me to bring my dog back with me, but it was a much better experience, she came out to me the same time my luggage came and her whole crate was shaking from side to side from her butt wiggling. I hope this helps.

We have flown ours a couple of times and I would recommend flying on the same plane as your dog. I know in Australia it is also cheaper to take this option. Hope everything works out well.

Grrrr!

One pet shipping company told me it would cost almost $2,000 to ship him on a pet airline! I was so taken aback that I wrote him a nasty letter! I just went to the states with my husband and 2 son's and that cost us $1,500! So $500 dollars less for four People and $ 500 more for one 50 lbs Dog?!!!!

I literally thought I was gonna pass out!

Anyone know if I can ship a pet on a major airline that I am not on? We are already taking the cat's on the same flight as us and it is a military flight so we can only have 2 on it! Sophie and Laila have to go together they are VERY close at this point and I don't want them to be alone! Dozer on the other hand does very well by himself in the cage and we wouldn't see him the whole time reguardless! I just don't know what we are going to do!

I suggested that my husband fly a diffrent flight to get Dozer back home and I would take the kid's and the cat's with me but that is also a military flight that may be Space Available travel!

Space A is so hard to fly with animals... I have seen women have to leave their animals at the airport with other military members just cause of shots.. very heartbreaking... I would have you fly home earlier and then your husband... Plus the military is paying for it... sponge the gov't... lovely military member...

I would recommend you going commercial with your dog. You can normally get pretty good airfare from Germany. When I flew 2 dogs on Delta from Germany I believe it cost $600 for 2 large kennel spaces and then of course my ticket. It would be a lot easier on you and Dozer I am sure. At least that way you will know that he will be there when you get off the plane. Is there any way you can look into a direct flight (depending on where you are going)?

Before Cinda was ours, my daughter would fly up and stay with us on holidays and have Cinda on the same flight with her. It was so much easier than having the worry and fear of waiting for another flight.
