Upwards of $1000, with the exception of white puppies. White puppies are heavily discounted by reputable breeders because they cannot be shown or bred.

Puppy price alone is not necessarily an indication of a reputable breeder however. Plenty of BYBs sell their puppies for thousands each just because they know people will pay it, so don't automatically assume that a puppy that costs $2000 must be well bred. You still have to do your research on the breeder. ;)

So I was cruzing around on the net this weekend just looking and cute boxer puppies because thats how I get my fix currently and I was looking as some pictures of white boxers (who were adorable, but what boxer isnt?) for $2000.00!!!! I laughed so hard that Brian started looking at me like I was crazy. hehe

So we are on our 2nd boxer as well. The $2000 deal with byb is very true but also if you get a dog from a reputable pro you could easily pay 2k. One thing I did that really weeded out "bad" breeders was grill them with questions. And then also follow up those questions with similar questions or ask the breeder to expand on some of their answers. All the breeders that seemed better and more reputable would answer all the questions and answer them directly, not with some generic broad answer. All the breeders I contacted that followed up, they actually like answering all the questions because they felt I was doing my homework on both them and the breed. many of them said based on my line of questions they could only assume that their puppies would be going to a good home so it helped develop the relationship with the breeder.

Also, ask for references especially from those of the dogs they bred with. Then grill those references with the same questions as the original breeder. Again I found the references would take the time and answer all my questions and also say "feel free to contact if you have any other questions or concerns".

Answers and references are great - but even the slickest of byb's can produce them. I find the real back peddling and excuses come when you ask for hard copies of the health testing done on the sire and damn. ;)
