bumps on skin

Moab's developed several small and medium sized bumps on his skin over his entire body in the last week. They're his normal skin color, don't appear to have any fluid in them, don't seem to bother him in any way and other than being bumps, seem like normal skin. He's not losing hair on any of them and they aren't hard or feel like they have a head or core in them. Does anyone have any idea what these are or what might be causing them?

He's had a few before on occasion on his upper back and they've gone away after a few days. This time though, he's got quite a few more and instead of being concentrated in one area, are spread over his back, forelegs and hind quarters.

It does sound like hives and it could be numerous things. Our Cleo has always been allergy prone. We always had benedryl on hand for her. She always had enviromental allergies until recently. She has developed an allergy to dog food. We now have her on a prescribed food and she is doing wonderful but we had to take her to numerous doctors before finding out she was allergic to the protein in dog food. Look to see if the bumps get worse when Moab is outside or just coming in from outside. Did you recently bathe him? We kept a journal of when the bumps came, as well as what Cleo was doing at the time, what food she ate.. With Cleo it was obvious to see it was right after she ate. Good Luck!

I agree with the others that it sounds like hives! Joey has had them several times and I have never been able to pin point what casues them. I give him benedryl - 1 mg per lb of body weight and that always helps him.

Had a similar problem

My Brinks went through something similar. I recently moved to the country, and couldn't find a store that carried California Natural, so I changed food. HUGE mistake! He got bumps everywhere, especially on the top of his head and ears. They were itchy, too, and he would scratch until they bled. The vet gave me some lotion and it seemed to help, but the best thing I did was to find a place that carried the Cal. Natural. He has been improving ever since! Hopefully it doesn't happen again. Have you switched or added any new foods lately? His bumps were the worst when we tried a food containing lamb.

Actually we just recently switched to the Cal. Nat. from Innova because we felt the Innova was making him throw up, we wanted to see if there was a correlation.

Bumps on skin....

We've been really happy with the Cal. Natural chicken and rice. It took almost two weeks back on the food to really notice an improvement. The pet sotre owner told me about another food I want to look into. It's made by Versus ( A MD company) and apparently has the exact same ingredients as the Cal. Natural, is organic, and you get 10 lbs. more for the same money. I let Brinks try a sample, and he seemed to really like it. I hate to switch if he's doing well, but in this economy if you can get the same quality at a lesser price, it's a no brainer.
