Bumps on my Puppies Chin

I've searched for information in this forum and I think my 5 month old, Molley, either has puppy acne or canine papilloma virus which I understand is highly contageous to other dogs. I first noticed them over a month ago and when she was at the vet for her final puppy shots, I pointed them out to the vet tech who didn't seem too concerned about it. At that time, she only had 2 bumps, one on either side of her little chin. Now she has about 10-12 of them on her chin and one on her jowl. I've called and made an appointment for the vet to take a look next Saturday. They don't seem to be bothering her at all and I don't see any inside her mouth.

In the meantime, if anyone's had experience with this, will you please take a look at the picture in my gallery and tell me what it looks like to you? I just submitted it so I hope it's approved and up soon. Thank you.

No pic yet. It does sound like acne though. Wipe the face and jowls after each meal. Dab the spots with peroxide. If you're using plastic bowls try switching to glass,stainless or ceramiic.

We use stainless steel. Up until yesterday, I kind of assumed it was acne, however, yesterday evening, a lady who has a pet sitting service (and has a client on our street) pulled over when she saw us out front because she just loves boxers. Anyway, when she pointed it out and I said I thought it was acne and had gotten bad lately because Molley's teething, she said she didn't think it was. She also said that she was a vet tech for 11 years before she started her company. That's when I got concerned, started doing some serious research and contacted my vet for an appointment.

Vet techs, current or "retired", have no business making diagnoses. That goes for anyone who works in a vet office who doesn't have a "DVM" at the back of their name.

Most likely you are dealing with acne. Very common on the chin, and very common with puppies. Only a trained vet can tell you for sure. Ance, obviously, looks like little pustules. Papilloma usually has a surface that looks like cauliflower, and aren't pustular. Either way, both conditions improves as the puppy gets older. Older dogs still can get acne from time to time, but not as easily and often. Papilloma also goes away as the puppy's immune system matures and can fight it off.

Obviously, you know what your talking about as the symptoms I've found are exactly as you've described. I hope my picture comes up soon so you can take a look. On a side note...your dog does look like S.L.J....freaky! It kind of blew my mind the other day when I first saw it.

Kit still has some bumpies on the underside of her chin and she's over a year old. she doesn't seem to be bothered by hers either. We pointed it out to our vet,too and she didn't seem too concerned about it, but I will be interested in hearing what you find out about it!!

Most vet techs that I've dealt with think they are more qualified than they really are. That's not to say that they don't mean well, but they are really out of place to be diagnosing animals.

I'm not at all surprised it was acne. That's very common in this breed. Occasionally you may even see one show up when your little girl is all grown up.
