I signed on today in search of any info I could find to help me with what I thought, and am now sure, is a bad case of Boxer Acne on my girl Graycee.
THANK YOU ALL soooooooooo much for the photos and info that you have posted!!!!
I had called my vet and they said to keep an eye on it to see if it got better or worse . . . we'll see how she does with the Green Tea wash . . . she already LOVES having her face washed after meals!

Hi There!

I just posted a peice about my Cassius, and his cist looking lump on his cheek. I came accross yours, and tried to view your pick in your members gallery unfortunately the picks were all taken in the summer. I wanted to see if it was similar to what Cassius has on his cheek. I am a new member, and am still getting used to useing the site. Any help with the pick would be a great help Thanks Cassiuss's Daddy!

I just to Eve to the vet 10/26/06. I first noticed this a couple of months ago under her mouth when my mom bought her a rubber tire toy. I saw under her mouth bleeding a little. I through the toy away the next day. Her mouth seemed better on some days but things got worse. She rapidly got 3 more bumps. And the last couple of days before bringing her to the vet one was a good size and bleeding. Well I felt so guilty for not bringing her sooner because it was now infected and the vet said it must be painful. She is on a anti-biotic and a oxydex shampoo and leave on conditioner. He said the hairs around the mouth are more stiff and are trapped inside her skin that is why you don't see hair on the bumps. The shampoo is a little gritty and is supposed to release the hair. She has a recheck in 3 wks. I also had to take away all her rubber and plastic toys because he said boxers have a problem with allergies. After this goes away I can try introducing them again to see if it was the cause. This is the info I have on MUZZLE PYODERMA (Acne, Chin Pyoderma)
This condition affects the chin and lips of young dogs and is most ommon in Boxers, Doberman Pinchers, English Bulldofgs, Great Danes, Weimaraners, Mastiffs, Rottweilers and German Shorthaired Pointers. The cause is not known. Although these breeds are prone to this condition, not all dogs of these breeds are affected. Early signs are mild red spots in the lips and chin. Gradually the affected skin becomes swollen and develops pustular sores that open and drain. the early sores are not infected, and antibiotics do not improve them. The draining sores that develop later improve with antibiotics but do not usually improve completely.

1. Cleansing with benzoyl peroxide-containing shampoos and gels will prevent severe disease in most individuals.

2. Antibiotics by mouth may be necessary in more severe outbreaks.

3. Bioply, skin scraping, and cultures may be necessary if the sores do not respond to usual treatments.

p.s. Eve has had 2 shampoos and two and a half days of antibiotics and I can already see improvement.

scooby and his acne

my baby boy scoobs always broke out with acne but i got a tip from another boxer mom... filtered water... we were giving him tap water and as soon as i heard about the filtered water difference (at least where i live in atlanta), we switched the babies over to Pur water, and it cleared up instantly. scoobs can't have rawhides though, because he scrapes his chin up on the rough surface and then leaves bloody trails all over the house... just regular neosporin works though although he yelps when we mess with it... don't you love how human they are?

My boxer used to get them, and my vet also told me that it was acne. She said that you can prevent it by making sure their food and water dishes are always clean, and she also told me that you could wash their chins periodically with some gentle soap. However I never washed Daunte's chin, I just cleaned his food dishes more frequently as well as his toys!
