Ok so my boy Cooper has been having these Bumps/Hives on the side of his body that he has had coming and going but this past week it seems they have gotten worse and not really gone away. Anywa I have talked to my Vet a couple times on this. They recommended that I bath him in a Oatmeal shampoo and keep him on Benadryl. So I've been doing that well Its been concering me more than probably him but he has also been scratching a little bit more. Well I talked to the vet yesterday they told me to keep doing what I'm doing and switch him from Benadryl to another Allergy medication called Chlortrimetron (spell??) and do that for 2 weeks. I also told them that I am in the process of switching foods. Currently I am feeding him Eukanuba puppy large breed......I know its a bad food but I am currently switching to Canidae. I also have some samples of Wellness and Solid Gold that the feed shop that I went to, to get the Canidae.

So I have no idea if the bumps were from food, grass, things that are in the air right now or what. I am confused and I just want my baby to get better. I was also wondering if its possible that the Canidae all life stages could have something in it that he may be alergic too .....for example the eukanuba was chicken based and the canidae all life stages has chicken, turkey, lamb and herring meal. The vet told me that I should just keep an eye on it until I have completely switched foods. I'm hoping part of it is the food and that its just something going on.

Here are a couple links to a few pictures of the bumps...sorry they pics are sorta small photobucket resized them.....Thanks for you help in advance

How about treats-is your pup eating any? It could be food or environmental. Have you cahnged laudryb detergent, air fresheners ,use a carpet powder, use flea/tick preventative? Some dogs here are allergic to grass and pollens also. Are the ears red and smelly? Is your pup chewing at the paws?

He does get treats and after looking at some of the ingredients I won't be feeding him anymore treats with Corn, Wheat, or Soy since they are a common cause of allergies in dogs. That way I can rule out that. I am in the process of switching foods with him from Eukanuba to Canidae all life stages. I've been using the same laudry detergent since he was a pup...All Free, Most of my house is wood and tile other than the rooms and I don't use any carpet powder or any flea/tick preventative. But what I did do this week was I bought an air freshener that you plug in to the wall. I am wondering if that could be something that could have effected him. I will take that out when I get home tonight. His ears arent red and I don't ever notice hime chewing at his paws. Now he does seem to scratch a little more and sometimes he will sorta chew his sided a little where he can't really scratch. now he doesn't alwys scratch but it seems more noticable than normal.

I would eliminate the treats with grains. *If *it is food related it can take days or even weeks to see positive results. The pictures look more envirnmental to me but its really hard to tell. I have read about some dogs being allergic to air fresheners. Does your dog roll in grass or walk in amongst shrubbery?

I think that the bumps bother me more then they do Cooper. He is his playful self and has lost of energy, Other than I notice him scratching a little more. He does play on grass in the back yard and if I take him to the doggie park. My other thought was that I realized that I turned my sprinklers off for a day when it was raining her and forgot to turn them back on so I'm wondering if the dried out grass could be part of the issue. So it will take a couple weeks to notice the changes with his food too right?? he seems to love the Canidae. I was testing him out with playing a few kibbles of his old food and then some kibbles of the Canidae and he would pass over his old and go for the Canidae first. I also did it the same thing with both stated and the samples of wellness and Soild gold and he seemed to like all of them.

My dog Dozer has food allergies and gets hives about an hour after eating. the hives usually last a couple days. He is allergic to corn, eggs, and dairy products. :) He is eating Canidae

Took another look at the pics. Are some of the bumps open? If so,I would let the vet have a look and see if there is a staph infection there. Hives are usually just raised bumps that subside with time.

Poor guy. How long did it take for you to find out that it was food allergies? I take it that having him on Canidae has gotten rid of the allergies?

is there a difference between hives and bumps?? cause I have seen before on Cooper were he's had a few red bumps on his chest and whats on his sides, they aren't red.

There were a few of the bumps that had been opened and scabed over. I think from him scratching at them. I'll probably call the vet again to talk to them and see what else they say.

Well we knew immediately what was happening when he was 7 weeks old because the breeder had him on canned food and I fed him kibble with corn and he broke out right away. So I reasearched here :) and just lucky guessed it was the corn. As soon as I put him back on the canned food his hives went away a couple days later. So we bought him Chicken Soup kibble (no corn) and he went months with no problems. Until I added yogurt to his kibble and he had the same problems. Recently I gave him a raw egg yolk in his kibble and that was the worst one yet, he had hives for a couple weeks off and on from that. It was at the same time I switched his food to Canidae so I first thought it was the kibble but he has been eating it for a while now and the hives went away so i'm pretty positive it was the egg. With dogs who have allergies you should only add one new thing every now and again so you can be sure that was what caused the problem. Once something is ok then add another it makes it ALOT easier. ;) Dozers hives are about the size of a nickel and look like raised up bumpy hair, I always say he looks like a bumpy brown sheep! Sometimes on his white bits they are red bumps that look kind of like mosquito bites. They go away after a few hours and then come back again.
