My SammyJo did the same thing

I believe that my SammyJo, 2&1/2 yr old female, did the same thing to her toenail- I wouldn't have known it had I not seen small blood spots all over my floor. She didn't limp or whine or anything. I checked both boxers out- which is a riot- they love to be examined by Mamma- its hysterical- they lie on their backs, long legs all in the air belly up letting me examine each foot, tummies , necks ears- the works!LOL.:p Anyhow- I saw the pic and Brandi's toe looked just like SammyJo's and I just trimmed the torn part off and put flour on it to clot it:confused:and it was fine and I have trimmed their nails since and thank God, she is fine. After reading others posts- I am darned lucky, I suppose. That is what her toe looked like though. Jewels

Hi Peg,

I hope all is okay with Brandi's toe nail.

Mason broke one of his toe nails when he was a pup, actually twice, and now has MAJOR issues with getting his toe nails trimmed. I just wanted to say that you should touch her nails a lot now that this has happened. I think Mason would have been okay if I had started this immediately after they broke.

Good Luck! ;)

Before bed last night it was really bothering her. She was licking non stop and limping. After washed it in salt water, I rinsed it with "band-aid brand wash"(asked vet first) it relives pain with lidocaine. After that she was fine and fell asleep.
This morning I woke up listening to slurping. Ready to tell her to stop, I notice it was Caesar licking it for her and she was just watching with her usual silly grin, as to say "thanks" I of course made Caesar stop, and looked at it, it still looks sore but not as red. Also not bleeding at all. No swelling or oozing either.
She was limping a little this morning, but when I got home after taking mom to the doctors, she was her usual nutty self, climbing the back of the couch and bouncing all over. My husband said she was fine and slept while I was gone so she must be feeling better.
Funny thing, last night when I was trying to describe it to you I couldn't figure out what it looked like. The picture didn't do it justice it, the actual flesh sticks out of the end of the nail. My husband hit the nail(hehe) on the head he said it looks like when you crack a crab leg and the meat is sticking out. Yep that is exactly the way it looks and nice and pink too. Ummm can't wait till I have crablegs again
I hope the nail grows out fast, I think it hurts me to look at it more than it actually hurts Brandi.
Thanks for all you advice and support, I'm such a baby when it comes to the "furkids" I could just imagine if I had ever had skinkids what I would be like:rolleyes:

Awwwww....isn't that cute that Caesar was helping Brandi! :D Stories like this really make me miss having two dogs and cannot wait to get another! I think in the spring I'll be applying for boxer rescue...

I am glad to hear she's getting better. I know how you feel and what it looks like since Mason has done it twice. It's always tough when they get hurt...I know how you feel since my fur babies are my "kids".
