good to hear

Hi Kelly,

great to hear your boy is doing well.

I forgot to mention in my lst post to be prepared for when the leg comes out of the cast. I know that we freaked right out!
When Thais leg came out of the cast he could barely walk on it for a few days, He would just drag it behing him. Because the muscles havent worked for a while the deteriorate.

He also had sores all over his leg from the cast, and with him constantly growing made things worse. I know when I picked him up from the vet I was nearly crying, so please be prepared and dont freak out too much, it looks a lot worse than it actually is.

If your vet doesnt tell you, by some savlon cream from the supermarket and rub it into his leg every day, gentle massaging the muscles too. This helps the circulation to return to the muscles and will assist with repair.

Good luck and good thoughts from Thai and Blayz

Thanks for tip on Savlon cream. I will question our vet about that. He is having a hard time today. He must be building a tolerance to the Benadryl because it doesn't seem to keep him quiet as long. He is so anxious to play that I had to crate him today because he was hurting himself by running around the house. This is going to be a loooong month!

I feel your pain - kind of

My 4 month old pup, Roxy, fractured her leg almost a month ago. We thought that she was going to have to have surgery. Ends up the surgeon thought it would heal just fine on its own. But, he told us to keep her still for 6 weeks!!!!! HA! She stopped favoring it and doesn't have any tenderness anymore, but i know it's not completely healed yet.

We tried everything to keep her still, kongs, nylabones, etc. But she would still do everything that we weren't supposed to let her do. Chase the cats, go up and down stairs, etc. All the while I am thinking of how devastating it would be if she reinjured herself and had to have surgery.
Well, I took her to the vet today and told him that i thought the lesser of 2 evils would be to bring her on a short walk each afternoon to tucker her out (a 5-10min walk wipes her out for the day). He said she was healing nicely and thought a short walk would be better than pouncing the cats.

I'm not suggesting that you walk your pup, a broken arm is very different from a hairline fracture!

I'm not sure what i'm trying to say, except that i can relate.

Good luck, keep us posted.
