Broken Leg

Last Sunday 8 month old Bodhi had just graduated from his class at obedience. What better way to treat him than a mess around in the backyard. So I got one of his toys and proceeded to walk over to the grassed area, well, when I was walking over there he jumped up to get the toy from me. He jumped vertically and came down awkwardly on the cement, catching his leg underneath him with all 60lbs coming down on top his back right leg.
He gave a big yelp and laid down, it was a very scary moment, we whisked him off to the vet and the X rays confirmed a broken femur, totally snapped. He has since had a pin put through the bone and it is all held together with screws, the worst part is he has to be confined for 5-7 weeks!! How???
The best news is that he will make a full recovery....phew
So everyone be wary of the jumping boxer...it can be very painful.

Oh poor Bodhi! How unlucky, out of all the boxer jumps he's done in his life, THAT one had to end with a broken bone. Jasper and Piper send him BIG (gentle? yeah RIGHT) boxer hugs! lovicon

Poor Bodhi! Wishing him a speedy and uneventful recovery. Congratulations on graduating from class Layla was laid up for a few weeks when a toe was amputated and it was hard to 'keep her quiet'. I keep her mind busy learning some new tricks which did not involve a lot of physical activity but it was difficult seeing her want to run around and not being able to let her.

Sorry to hear of Bodhi's accident and hope he heals well and isn't too frustrated with his having to take it easy.

I love that picure of him. And who said Boxers aren't like humans? Did he have a remote control hidden behind him?:D

Poor Bodhi! :( I hope he heals up quickly. As for keeping him still and quiet for the recovery process, hopefully he'll understand it's because he's injured. Good luck on keeping him confined.

I totally understand the trouble of trying to keep a boxer fairly calm. My Killian underwent TPLO surgery for a torn ACL. He has 16 weeks of recovery and when I come home from work he still does his kidney bean dance. I am always yelling for him to keep all four legs on the floor.

Like dpasto my Billy has been recovering from an op to repair a torn ACL. He has one more week of lead only exercise, but has to keep it steady after that.

Have you tried crating him? Billy has never been in a crate before but we confined him to one room of the house at nighttime and while we were out. The rest of the time we just kept a very close eye on him to make sure he was only pottering about.

Poor Bohdi! Chance has a broken leg when he came to the local humane society that had to be pinned too. His foster mom had to keep him quiet and mostly that meant keeping him in a crate. For the first 2-3 weeks he was only allowed out of the crate to eat and pee (and then he was mostly carried outside). Good luck keeping him quiet! I know that will be hard.

What a lovely boy.
Hope you manage to keep him contained so that he mends well.

I wish I could stop Monty Jumping. He leaps up at trees and ends up landing on his back. I just cringe so much but so far he leaps up again, such a daft dog, he's determined to get those branches.
