SB730 and Bella's mom-
The majority of vets will tell someone to go ahead and breed a dog if they are generally in good health, which is why your TOP breeders do not put a whole lot of stock into the vets opinion about breeding, vets make money off of a bitch that is bred, they do not care about the breed standard, temperment testing and the health testing (which is done by SPECIALISTS!)
BUT for a vet to suggest that the bitch should be spayed would indicate that there is a problem with the dog, whether temperment wise (maybe the dog seems aggressive to the vet or whatever) or health wise or the finally there is a vet that cares about the overpopulation of dogs in this world and the millions that get put down a year because of lack of homes.
Not ALL vets care about making a buck but most vets will tell you that you can breed your bitch, heck subi has SEVERE hip displaysia I am sure if i went to another vet (not mine) he would tell me to go ahead and breed her. ( this is not ALL vets, but most will tell you you can breed a dog that should NOT be bred)
Also coming onto a forum and asking a "basic" question about heat would suggest that the original poster does not know a lot about breeding - HUGE NO NO!
Yes some of the responses might have seemed harsh or abrupt, but please realize that several of us work in rescue- myself included or are breeders- debbie magon and pawprint boxers.
We are TRYING to stop the overpopulation and breeding of dogs and ESPECIALLY our beloved breed, the boxer. If poor breeding continues the breed characteristics that endear them to our heart will be gone replaced with a dog that does not meet the breed standard and does not have the "typical" boxer personality.
