Its all about responsibility here!

Why are you so anti getting her fixed if you dont want her bred?
Have you thoroughly researched everything you need to know about breeding?
Obviously not or you wouldnt be posting about it here.

When you took on your bitch you took on all the responsibilities that go with her.
You say you dont want her spayed?
WHY????
Look at the animal shelters, the cruelty of man to animals and the suffering these unloved, unwanted, animals go through.

Are you one of these people who dont think it will ever touch you?

If you choose to breed your bitch and that is the only reason she needs to remain in tact, then it will touch you.
You WILL be responsible for every single pup you bring into this world and the wellbeing of your bitch.

Think again.
Your vet is 100% correct.
Get your bitch spayed and let her and yourself live a happier, healthier life.
That way all you will ever be responsible for is her.

You may also like to do a search here and on the internet for the problems associated with having bitches intact and breeding.

As advised, please do a search to find your answer.

FYI - If you don't know where the search is, it's one of the blue buttons above the forums. :)

I spent 600 dollars to buy a btich from a breeder who had been bred and it nearly killed her. After spending 600 dollars on her for the purchase price (I was told I was getting a deal, I knew I wasn't but she needed help) I had to spend another 700 dolars in vet bills just in the first month to try to fix her and the damage the pups had done to her. She had mastitis so badly she will always have hanging skin and nipples from the excessvie stretchign done to them, and she only had one litter. People think she has just delivered a litter when they see her and sometimes I get disapproving looks from people who think I'm a backyard breeder because of how she looks. She has massive infections and other problems and it took me a LOT of time and effort to get her healthy again. Unless you are planning on breeding her (and from the sounds of it you don't konw much about breeding by your question) please get her fixed. The vet told me if my girl had been bred any more it would have most likely killed her, not to mention the permanent damage she now has. Don't risk her life and the lives of prospective pups who shouldn't be born by keeping her intact. It's so much easier to get her fixed on both her AND you. PLease try a search and see the dangers of breeding and the often coslty and emotinoally draining thing it can be. It would be best for her to be fixed, she will most likely have fewer health problems in the long run. Good luck to you and hope you can make the right decision for you and your girl.

Thats a damn smart vet! The vet is giving you the "right" answer, get your bitch spayed!

You obviously need to do some researching on breeding, i would recommend looking into the pro's and con's, the cost, the breed standard and then look at rainbow bridge and read about the several dogs that have died from backyard breeders because they "wanted" to breed their dog .

the story that comes immediately to my mind is Elliot, he died at 3 MONTHS!

It is not the breeders that suffer, they only breed because the want to, they have not "legitimate reason", it is the people who open their hearts to these wonderful animals that have to live with the emotional rollercoaster and eventually the loss of the BYB pups.

If you do a long enough search you will find the answer to the heat question.

Maybe there is a very good reason tjrb6255 is not wanting to get her bitch fixed. She could be showing her in conformation.

I think maybe the strong responses that were given to tjrb6255 may have scared her off. Posting a thread lets everyone who wants to post an opinion do so. I personally look forward to a response from the original poster (tjrb6255) so we may help him or her. Any updates???:(
