i have found a breeder that seems to be legit. seem to focus on health and have x rays of the parents hips and heart. 2 year health warrenty. now she says that she has a sealed reverse brindel. which looks black to me. now i know there are no such thing as a black boxer. but the sealed can look like they are. now both parents come with ckc papers. if they come with these papers does this mean i have no worries at all? or is there something more i should be doing to make sure iam not being had.

As others have mentioned, papers really don't mean a thing unless you are going to show. And as for CKC, it's just a certifcation that has a price to it. CKC papers are just about useless. This also tells you that neither parent were AKC registered. Many miller's and BYB's use this club due to lack of lineage with the AKC. All it means is that the breeder has paid a fee to join the club. Nothing more, nothing less.

There are many more educated members here on breeders and what should be considered. They will chime in here......just be patient.

One thing I find as a plus with this breeder is that they know what to call the coloring and not to pass it off as a "rare" color, as some other uneducated breeders would do for a couple bucks more.

You want to make sure both parents have been shown and both won conformations (titles), that both parents have been temperament tested, heart holstered, hips, eyes, and other blood tests ran as well, typically a reputable breeder will not own sire and dam (not always but 99% of the time), and reputable breeders will want to know something about you, possibly want to speak with your vet, see pictures of your home, info on past dogs, your experience with dogs specifically Boxers they won't just allow you to come in and take a puppy home without getting to knwo you first, they should also offer a health guarantee of 2-3 years and be willing to take the dog back for any reason for it's entire life. Also if the puppy is being sold to you as a pet only there should be a spay/neuter claus somewhere in the contract.

If they do not have both parents shown and have won titles (in the show ring), they do not have all of their health testing (x-rays aren't enough), temperament testing, a health guarantee, and be willing to take the dog back for it's entire life then stop right there and run away. Some of the other stuff can be less important but those are the top things and if one's missing they may be "getting there" but I still wouldn't purchase from them.

Isn't there 2 different CKCs (Continential kennel club which is the one Lily is referring to) and Canadian Kennel Club?

Canadian Kennel Club would make sense since you are in alberta. It's a similar organization to AKC- they hold shows, have registration rules/pedigree requirements (unlike continential kennel club).

Some good questions to ask the breeder:
What health testing is done and will the breeder provide the results from health testing?
Do they show their dogs or have championships on them?
How many litters does the breeder produce a year?
Why did the breed the parents/what were the goals for this breeding?
Temperment of both parents
Where/how the puppies are raised?

Good for you for asking the questions first and not falling in love with a cute puppy and buying one from BYB (what I did :( ).

I will add on to what Johann said by saying that there are TWO CKCs, the CANADIAN Kennel Club which is a reputable registry, along the same lines of the AKC except only in Canada, and also the CONTINENTAL Kennel Club which is NOT a reputable registry but an "alternative" registry in the US, meaning many dogs who are not registrable with the AKC can be registered under the Continental KC. If the breeder you are looking at is in Canada it would make sense that the dogs are registered with the Canadian KC, which is a good thing.

if they come with these papers does this mean i have no worries at all? or is there something more i should be doing to make sure iam not being had.

Being registered with a reputable registry is only one of the VERY BASIC requirements of a good breeder; it definitely does not mean that they are perfect in every way though! Heck, even some puppy mills can have AKC registered dogs -- it simply means that they have not been caught breaking any of the rules yet. Plus, AKC, CKC, or any other registry, do not themselves require things of breeders such as health testing, and breeding only dogs which are healthy and adhere closely to the standard. Those things you have to find out on your own.

Just another small opinion here. From what I understand regardless of the registry whether it be a more reputable one or not...all it means is pure bred...not necessarily well bred. Good Luck
