I would find a new breeder. Any good, reputable breeder will want you to take the puppy at not only the best time for the pup, but the best time for you as a family. The best time being - when the puppy is over 8 weeks old, and when you (as a family) are completely ready to bring him home. I wouldn't bring him home right before Christmas, nor would I take him at any earlier than 8 weeks. I actually would prefer to wait until 9 or 10 weeks, after Christmas is over, and when you're ready to give him 100% of your attention.
I'd hazard to guess this breeder isn't as good as you had been lead to believe.
