Just wanted to add a note about rescue digs.
My Diesel came from a rescue 5 years ago and he is such a blessing in my life, and I love knowing that I saved a dog from a dire fate. In fact, most of my animals, horses and dogs, have been rescue. I will always rescue animals.
However, if this is your first one, you should consider the fact that when you rescue a dog, you are probably rescuing one that came from a byb, which means that most likely the parents were not screened for any health problems... which is a problem we're facing now as we just found out Diesel had cardiomyopathy.
Of course, it doesn't change anything--I love him and I would do it all over again. He is seriously the joy of my life. Diesel is the purest-hearted creature I've ever met. All he wants is love and cookies, and that's what we've given him for 5 short years. But before you rescue a dog, be prepared to deal with unforeseen problems... I know it can happen to any breed, any boxer, any species, but with a rescue there's a greater chance, and it sucks so much.
Sorry to be so long winded, but this is something we've only learned in the past few days, and I'm still trying to come to terms with it... which I do by blaming bybs. Diesel is definitely not the "boxer standard," but he is my best friend. I would encourage you to rescue your boxer, because they are so special and deserve so much love, and you're doing such a good thing when you rescue... but be aware of the pain it can cost you later.
But personally, I would do it all over again, a hundred times.
Oh, and two boxers are even funner that one!
