Protectiveness

I have to agree that they would be fine until someone tried to take the sofa.

My hubby is a truck driver and is gone thru the week. We had gotten Boone while hubby was away and so Boone hadn't met him yet when he walked into the house. Boone backed up really fast, knocked into the kitchen table sent that sliding and then pee'd all over the floor.
Well needless to say it's still the family joke 2.5 years later.
SO I can't really say if he would be protective or not. Lexus is a different story, she'll bark (she sounds like a hound dog) and the hair on the back of her neck will stand on end and she has a very low growl.

Most of the time when someone comes over whether it be a stranger or a friend I have to protect the person from some VERY serious loving. LOL I won't even let them into the house usually because I don't want them to be attacked with love.
They sound really vicious with each other and us when they play, but I can't really imagine that they would harm some stranger. I guess it just depends upon the personality of your boxer. Hopefully we won't ever have to be put in the position to find out.

Paper-Dogg13

Boxer Insane
I'm convinced Charlie Paper would show a robber where all the good squeaky toys are! Some times I wonder about him. However, when I went home for Christmas my brother and I were rough housing a bit too rough, and Charlie finally stepped in and told my brother to back off. He didn't bite or anything, but he made it clear that enough was enough. So in all reality, I have no idea what Charlie would do. Hopefully I won't have to find out any time soon.

Super Boo

Completely Boxer Crazy
We weren't sure what Boo & Skye would do. The other night we met some friends for dinner. My husband (as he has been known to do) locked his car keys in the car. Our friend drove him back home. They snuck through the back gate and got a spare key hidden in the backyard. When they got back to the restaurant, our friend was whitefaced and told us that Boo was a VERY good guard dog. Evidently both dogs almost went thru the back door trying to attack them until they recognized my husband. This was coming from a big guy who has had dogs and horses for most of his life. Needless to say, my husband is very satisfied that our dogs are effective in protecting our house. Neither dog has ever shown any aggression or tried to bite a human before. Nor have they been aggressive since. They were just doing what they felt they needed to do.

boxerpat

Super Boxer
Our house is very quiet as it's just hubby, me and Soph. A loud noise will scare her to death! foolicon I have only seen her give a warning growl once, it kind of unnerved me as she had never done this before. I got up and turned on all the outside lights, (we live rural) and didn't see anything or anyone. But I left all the lights on for awhile anyway. If we had a intruder, Sophie would probably run for the basement and hide! But that's ok with me, I don't want her hurt. appicon Patty

draco

Boxer Pal
That's one of the reasons I got my boxer boy, Draco. I drive for a living and he goes with me everywhere. When we are truckstops he watching people closely and acesses whether they are too close to his truck or not. Even when I'm at other places he sits in the driver's seat while I'm out of the truck and watches everyone. I sometimes delivery to places like downtown Detroit, Chicago, etc at early morning hours. It's nice to have him there in the truck. As I know when I go inti the locations the truck will still be there when I come out. I had a friend test Draco once to see if they could open the door and coax him out of the truck. Draco held his ground and didn't jump out but he also did let my friend into the truck either.
Draco will give most guys a low warning growl at first but it will get serious if he thinks they are too close. Draco loves his job and he gets upset if I have to leave him behind for some reason.

Shakira had never shown any sign of guarding until she was over a year old. All of a sudden she became this watchdog. We, as everyone else, only got Shakira because we love the boxer breed and she just wrapped herself around us the moment we laid eyes on her, we fell in love. Shakira has never been taught to protect and she has never been expected to, however, since she has turned one she will watch out the door or window and if anyone comes anywhere near the house she will start a low growl in the bottom of her throat and her hair will stand up from the back of her neck to the base of her tail and she is very intense. She will not allow anyone to come in that front door unless I grab her collar and tell her it is okay, baby, you can let them in and then she will jump up and down and kidney bean and give out dozens of kisses. I honestly think that no one would ever be able to come into our home unannounced. I feel good about her protection and I never worry about being home alone.

Sirus'Mommy

Super Boxer
Sirus has only gone into super-protection mode once. We were in the car and a man walked up to the car and went to reach inside the car on the passenger side (where Sirus was) to introduce himself to me...shake my hand (later found out that he wanted me to breed Sirus with a female pit! HA!) and Sirus wasn't having that. He growled first, the hair raised, and then there was a quick snap...no contact...but the intention was surely there!

I've noticed that just recently, Sirus is becoming more protective. Normally outside noises don't bother him (cars, horns, kids, other dogs barking, etc.) but he heard a noise the other morning while we were still in bed, that he didn't like and made one sharp, crisp, deep half bark/half growl and jumped off the bed, ran downstairs...then back up...on the bed...gave me a quick kiss, then a glance, and layed back down with a deep sigh. Reassuring me that everything was good, I guess!

My passive boy is becoming a protective man...

From my personal experience...I believe females to be a bit more protective then males...but that's just my experience.

RockyNY Mom

Boxer Booster
Rocky at 7 months is already protective. We live in an apartment, and if someone is in the hall too long, he begins to growl. On a few occasions he found the need to bark. I would not like to see someone break into the house as i don't think Rocky would give a warm welcome. He is usually quiet, so to hear him growl and bark is a shock!

busters mum

Super Boxer
Buster is an extremly effective guard dog, and his hearing is amazing. However I do not know what he would actually really do if some one did enter un invited.
He seems to guard more when the kids are about or when we are all in bed.
If he does hear something he goes berserk, and will not just forget about it either he will be on edge for ages after, just staring and listening.

Here are 2 instances where Bust had been a protector.

When off lead over a rural park, a large woman much bigger than me as I am only 4' 10" who was wearing a funny looking hat (innocently) stood between me and Buster. Buster went down in a sort of lurching position and growled at her extremly menacingly. Needless to say the woman moved away from me very quickly and Buster just then carried on like nothing had happened.

The 2nd was when I was having trouble with someone. They were giving me hassle and I cried(foolishly) Buster boxer punched the person, Which is unacceptable I know but hey they deserved it.
