Boxers - Extra $$$ Spent

My husband and I have both had dogs most of our lives. We got our first Boxer, Carley, in December of 2003. Dog expenses were always limited to food, vet bills, bowls, beds and an occasional toy or two. Our dogs were loved but they were our pets and I cannot recall ever going on the computer to discuss them.

What makes Boxers so different? I can't quite put my finger on it. We have our second Boxer, Molley, now and just like Carley, she's family. Some of the extra expenses we've incurred in order to accommodate our furry family member are so embarrassing when I stop and think about it.

1. We bought a travel trailer so we could take trips and bring our furry kid along.

2. We replaced our queen size bed with a California king so we and our furry kid could all sleep together comfortably.

3. We used to have a babysitter come in one night a week to sit with Carley so me and DH could go out to dinner. She had separation anxiety and didn't like the crate.

4. Molley goes to doggy daycare one or two days a week...just to play.

5. We bought a photo printer because we take so many Boxer pictures, the cost to develop them was through the roof. People laugh at our photo albums because 90% of the pictures are of Carley and Molley. And yes, we have two grown skin kids! (Who, by the way, refer to Molley as their sister.)

6. Instead of a couple of toys in the yard, we have a toybox in the family room overflowing with toys.

These are only a few examples that I come up with off the top of my head. We are obviously out of our minds. What is this hold that Boxers have on us? Please, please tell me we are not alone!

Idon't think I can answer your question as I am under the boxer trance too.

Bradlee has everything she could possibly want. We go to the local pet store and I walk up and down the isles with me asking her if she would like a new toy and each toy she shows an interest in we get. The girl has more toys then most toddlers.

I also have to check ever ingredient in her food, treats, etc. I spend more time shopping for her treats then for my own food. And she definitely eats a better balanced diet.

Then we have the play dates, and the bashes, and even a new dog walker...
But just one look, one kiss, one cuddle session makes it so worth it. I would happily go broke if I know my boxers have everything they could possibly want.

You are not alone! We also got a king size bed, are constantly tripping over the toys, and have a dog walker /trainer who comes everyday to take them out. He also stays with them if we go away. Do not even get me started on the medical bills- I always say my older boy is my vacation home :) Worth every penny!!

No way are you alone on this board! DH and I plan on buying a trailer also so that the furkids can come with on trips. They have a full toy box. We hardly ever leave the house without them because we feel bad for crating them. Our topic of choice is always Boxers. Boxers Boxers Boxers all day long all the time. For me its the way they look at me when im talking to them, its like they understand. And when i come home from a bad day it all goes away when i have 3 wiggly butts greeting me. Ive never had another breed but from just meeting with others, Boxers just have something almost human about them. I just love them so much.

Guilty party here too! :) This is part of the reason we own an air conditioned camper. Have to keep the baby comfortable.

Haha. I have to admit that I never needed a toybox in the living room, but there is one there now and I am thinking about giving them their own "playroom". We don't have children yet and at the rate we are going w/ all of our animals, we may never need to!!

Well well.. I bought my Jimmy, just so I had room for my first boxer. He has more toys then a child! (over flowing wicker basket!) I had to make sure I bought him a huge pillow to sleep on.. but he tends to sleep on our bed! I would love to get a king size, but our room is not big enough :( I buy him all kinds of food, and treats, I think he eats better then me!! I know I will keep going out of my way for him, above and beyond, just because he is so speicial!! It's a boxer thing!! I love it!!! :)

We haven't bought a bigger bed yet but dh sleeps on the couch alot!!!!! I think I spent just as much at Christmas on the fur kids as the skin kids. Last year Foreman got a cake but not the skin kids for his birthday and boy I still hear about it. I have to go on BW everyday to see what everyone's boxer is doing. My vet bills are higher because I go for no reason better safe then sorry!!! My dogs have a toy box and has more toys then some kids I know. I stay home more now to be with them don't want them to be left alone!! Not to mention the food they are on better then any food any other dog I have owned. Yeah I am under the boxer spell!!! But I have also never been loved by dogs before either!!!

Well, reading this thread has certainly got me thinking, I can tell you that. ;) I'm SURE I'll be the same way - I'm already thinking of things I have to do to "get ready". ;)

Sounds like the Boxers on THIS board certainly don't want for anything, that's for sure. ;)
