Breed Specific Laws (BSL) are a very sore subject with me. I fought my local town council last year. Sadly, there were only 5-6 people at most of the meetings. People I talked to said, since it wasn't their breed they weren't worried and couldn't be bothered.

That is why we must all fight these laws. It is much easier to stop them from being introduced than to try to get them reversed. My town banned Pits and anything that our animal control thought was a pit. Pretty broad.

We dog owners have to begin sticking together, even if it is not our breed today! But, what about tomorrow.

In America, first they came for the German Shepard, and I didn't speak up because my dog wasn't a German Shepard. Then they came for the Doberman, and I didn't speak up, because my dog wasn't a Doberman. Then they came for the Rotweillers, and I didn't speak up because my dog wasn't a Rotweiller. Then they came for the Pit Bull and I didn't speak up because my dog wasn't a Pit Bull. When they came for my dog, there was no one left to care to speak up.

IMO, BSLs are canine genocide. I wasn't aware of the plan to pass the ordinance, or I would have attended the city council meeting prepared for battle. The next meeting is the 10th of April and I am going to that one. If you have anymore information you can offer, I would appreciate it. The ACF is located in W. WA. I have called a couple times but got now return. I did e-mail them and it was forwarded to others who have replied.

I just went and read the article and this scares me because I'm afraid it will be blown out of proportion despite being only 1 incident. We just moved to Littleton a few months ago and I'm scared that Boxers will be banned like Pit Bulls (they aren't here but are in nearby places). We have a friend in Aurora with an AmStaff and he had to pay a fine and has to carry 100,000 in insurance just to keep his dog. He also has to have a sign on his house saying he has a "vicious" dog.

Lilygirl, where in Colorado are you? You don't have to say, but I was curious.

I just have to say I'm glad venus is papered because we are looking at moving to Aurora. I know they don't ban boxers but i'm worried as well that it is only a matter of time. It does bother me that they banned american bull dogs as well.

This is such a sad story.

I live on the other side of Colorado from Denver, but saw this on the news. It is a very sad story indeed. One of the stations last night actually commented that how could this happen to a normally docile breed.

Come to find out the owner of these two had been in trouble before and had actually moved out of Denver proper to get his dogs away. But the neighbors said that he let these two run free in the neighborhood all or the time and that one had (either the mom or the son boxer) had menaced another neighbor before that.

I can't imagine what these two dogs went through with their owner to have this happen. But in my opinion it is definately a case of owner irresponsibility.

Thank you!!! I remember the "gist" this quote from 6th grade but couldnt remember the author so I could dig it back up.....I have been searching for 10yrs....

Exactly, those dogs must have been mistreated to attack somebody. I've NEVER heard of a boxer attack.

Boxers aren't bad dogs its the owner that makes them bad.
