We've had Brody for a few weeks now and it's been a ride. Anyway my question today is about a boxer puppy and a older, smaller dog (in this case a Yorkie). My folks have the Yorkie and we spend a fair amount of time together with the folks. Brody (the boxer) likes to play and rough house with Annie (the Yorkie) and they do a good job of playing, mostly. Annie is probably about 5 or so and Brody is 9 weeks old, and is already bigger then Annie. I am hoping that Brody isn't/won't become aggresive as he gets older, and Annie won't really be able to defend herself as well.

BLAH BLAH BLAH. What has your experince been withh boxer puppies as they grow up, getting along with/respecting older, littler dogs?

Chloe has a chewhuaua (sp) cousin - Yoda; and unfortunately they do not get along. However, the problem IMO lies with Yoda (of course I am going to say that!) - he's just too agressive - and well, yuppie. Chloe wants to play - as she is a playful puppy - and he feels unsecure (I guess) and barks - and then attacks - and hangs on to her beautiful lips ( :( ouch! ). Thus, we do our best to keep them apart - mainly do to the noise - and the fact that he hurts Chloe. A sprey bottle works well :(....

They were intoduced when Chloe was 10 weeks old or so... - it just never worked for us

Zoe the 5 month old boxer loves! other dogs, all of them. Unfortunatly she has not met a dog that likes her back. Poor Zoe just wants to get in thier face and play, but no one understands her. My mom's Shih Tzu who's 10yrs, loves to hate Zoe. My boy's mom's dog a Bichon 3 yrs also hates her. So sad she just wants to be loved. Abrea

actually, i have a pug/jack russel named lola and she and maggie get along quite well together. lola has had some experience though, we owned a rescue boxer (Rita) for a year before she passed away and we got maggie. in fact, whe rita died lola was sad and quiet- she didn't eat for a pretty long time and she just seemed so listless! so, even though lola acted like the typical, irritated big sister when rita was alive, she obviously missed rita terribly when she died!

so then we got maggie, and although maggie drives lola up the wall sometimes, lola will actually cuddle with maggie! she never did this with rita, and never does it with anyone else except me (shes not unsociable, she just doesn't like cuddling. shes the sweetest thing and if she ever stopped wiggling that little bum of hers it would be a miracle. she just doesn't like cuddling that much ;)), so its quite a big step for her! she will even give maggie kisses (its the sweetest thing!)

so, it really depends on the personalities of the dogs involved. i'm sure that Brody wouldn't ever be aggressive with any dogs unless he was not properly socialized. i think what you really need to look out for is little dogs being agressive with HIM! especially if they provoke him, and he defends himself. HE will be the one who gets in trouble, just because he is bigger *shakes head*. so watch out for those little ankle biters, they can be vicious!!

Laila/Cujo

We have Cujo, he is my 4 year old Chihuahua. We now have Laila and she is 6 months old now. They get along wonderfully. She has been so great and Cujo knows when to put her in her place. He rules the house you know!!! They have been inseparable since the day we brought her home.

I have Tracor, my juvenile deliquent boxer, and Zeus, my mini schnauzer. Tractor is about 17 weeks now and a holy terror at times. Zeus and he play together very well. Zeus is the boss and Tractor respects that. When we visit my mothers, she has a mastiff mix, Maggie, that is 2 and about 150lbs. The three of them romp and stomp with all getting along fine.

The only thing that I have noticed from Tractor is a bunch of back talk. He talks about everything. Zeus just igores him. I hope that this is the way they will be as tractor gets older.

Beau and my miniature dachshund are the best of friends. I honestly could not ask for a pair of dogs that gets along better than they do.

Jake gets along fine with small dogs, granted he's only 7months old. He dosen't play too rough with them, but a dog his size or bigger is a diffrent story. LOL
