You all may have seen on the news it is VERY hot in CA right now. I have the AC on at 75 but Sebastian is still very lethargic and sleeping more than normal. Is your boxer super sensitive to the heat? I am just hoping something else is not wrong with him. :( I am keeping an eye on him. :( He is eating and drinking normally just has LOW energy. :(

yes he is sensitive to the heat and we have to keep a close eye on him during the summer months and if he gets to hot he also sleeps alot, but only you know your dog so if you think there might be something else going on i would have it checked out.

agree totally !

we are in MI and it gets super muggy , Sam is hyper for about 3 mins , then into the pup pool. we only walk around a 2 block radius, if he is doing ok , we walk around again. this way we are never to far from home. i also know all the neighbors & if we have a heat problem , i can knock on a door for help !

so yes - we have heat issues - all short nosed breeds generally do. Sam mostly lounges in the shade when outside ( of course after ONE boxer burn !)

but again - u know ur boy best - if u think its something more , make a call to the vet !

Thanks you all. !!! :) It is cooler tonight and he seems better. Ate a big dinner and was even playing with the kids a bit in the yard. :) He is heat sensitive!

Summer is very hot and humid here and my two stay inside most of the time.
Outside exercise is out of the question. We play a lot in the house.

Napoleon enjoys sitting in front of a fan or lying on the tile floor.
That seems to keep him cool. Sandy on the other hand will go outside then come in and drink water or eat ice.

I agree with everyone, Charlie Paper gets pretty "mellow" when the days are really hot. We have a kiddie pool we set up during the summer, and both our "kids" lounge in it!

I always checked weather reports and temps for the day before I went to work. The older they get, the more sensitive they are.

When inside:

I set up a box fan on moderate day, or turn on the ac to 72-74F on a really hot day. Use bed sheets over the doorway to one room if you only have a window unit. That way the dog can come and go when they want from the room to get water in another room or out the doggy door or something.

And a couple of bowls of water, a tipped bowl is disaster.

When outside:

Lots of water in multiple bowls (a tipped bowl of water is scary so I had at least two or three out there with water in them.) with a frozen bottle of water in them if really hot.

And frozen bottles of water sitting in the kiddy pool when we had one set up for a few years.

Also set up a sturdy shelter if outside. Shade cuts 10-15 degrees of temp. Get as much shade as possible if outside is the only choice.

I know this post is about a month old, but I just wanted to share my experience. Which isnt much.

My ex has two German Shepherd dogs, and as you know they have full coats. Plus, a lot of Alaskan Malamute dogs have been successfully kept in places like Arizona.

Although Boxers are sensitive to heat, and cold, the dog ( Like people ) have an internal alarm that will allow them to know when they are overheating or too cold. It is essential to keep an eye on your pup though, and always allow them shade, and shelter from the extremes of weather. But they know when enough is enough. Hence why they sleep so much. Less activity, and sleeping is a great way to stay cool.
