You can also try the Pedialite popsicles....that way she'll think she's really getting an extra special treat....and I think they have a longer life than the bottled Pedialite. Good Luck and keep us posted.

If Sophie continues to have black tarry stools and blood in her vomit, I'd get her to whatever vet you can ASAP. Ideally a vet other than the one who told you she was OK. If this type of thing goes on for too long, she can become anemic. It can also be fatal. I hate to be blunt, but that's the case. I would have absolutely insisted that someone see Sophie on Weds night. Dried blood in stool and bright red blood in vomit is something you don't want to mess around with. In fact, if she were a human, she would have been evaluated in the ER for anemia and an attempt to locate the source of the blood would have been made, possibly resulting in hospitalization.

Sorry I'm late but just caught your thread. I hope Sophie is doing better today. In my opinion I would be looking for another vet. Or at Leta a emergency vet office near by. Blood in the vomit and tarry stools are defiantly a sign of bleeding. You mentioned an anti inflammatory med, what was it and has much? I had two dogs that had their stomach bleed from being on different ones even with being given with food. Also some antibiotics can be rough on stomachs and must be given with food also. Our vet had us bring them right in and then gave us a drug used for healing ulcers, it is called Carafate. Ask about it when you take her in, it helps to heal already bleeding ulcers in the stomach and intestines. We just give the pain clear pedialyte, I just put it in a squirt bottle and the rest in their water bowl.
I absolutely agree with BeckyNC if she was human they would have done tests to find out what is going on.

Poor Sophie...I hope she is feeling better soon. I also have to say I am not impressed with your vet and would be looking for another one. Even if you were overreacting they should have done more for you than they did.
How is the bland diet working? If you go into the baby section they carry pedialite in 4 packs with smaller bottles since they have a short shelf life when opened so you won't waste a whole lot.

How is the bland diet working? If you go into the baby section they carry pedialite in 4 packs with smaller bottles since they have a short shelf life when opened so you won't waste a whole lot.

Thanks to everybody and an update
Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for giving me all your input. Sophie is doing so very well. I am keeping my fingers crossed here!!! She is back to her normal rambunctious gorgeous self! She still tires easily when playing though. We have weaned her off the chicken and rice that she has had the last few days. She is eating her SD kibble and some of the SD canned puppy food (chicken flavor) mixed in. She also has had some cheese (not much) which is her absolute favorite treat! No throwing up for a few days now and her stool looks so much more normal! (The vet claimed that the dark small stools were caused by the Science Diet prescription food that she had for 3 weeks to get rid of the urinary tract stuff. Her last urine sample was free of crystals, blood, and bacteria.) So......I am hoping that my DH is right and it was the stick finally passing through. We are keeping an eye on things though. She has had a few small other types of treats. She has never been big on treats, but she loves cheese and cheesy poofs for dogs and science diet jerky/veggie treats. So, I am easing her in to some of this stuff. I am talking small little peices, not bigger than a quarter really.
Also, the antibiotic was Baytril and the anti-inlfam started with "eso" I think but can't for the life of me remember what it is called. Maybe the Baytril did it. Oh well, I am hoping for the best here and thinking that maybe I can get her through this and we will only need to see the vet on a limited basis now. She really is a good vet, just that sometimes the people who work for her do not tell her exactly what is going on. I am giving her excuses here, I know, but she truly loves the animals more than their humans I think. Better go. Thanks for your thoughts and feedback. We appreciate it!!!!!!
