Boxer & Teacup Poodle?

Hello Boxer Folks,
My wife really wants to get a little teacup poodle to go along with our 1.5 year old female boxer (65lbs). Just wondering if anyone has this type of big-small mix in their family.....Our Boxer is super-friendly and gets along great with every dog shes been in contact with.....

My Nikki grew up with a Chihuahua (my mom's dog) and did not have a single problem. Over time as my brood grew, the new memebers would pounce at her (more like antagonize and torture her :rolleyes: poor little girl!), but never hurt her. The only one I don't know that I would leave unattended with her is Spencer, as I fear he might squish her unintentionally. He's also 65llbs of SUPER FREINDLY and he's not very agile, not a good combination for a Chihuahua.

I once had a chihuahua who's best friend was a great dane!! They were the best companions in the world. Obviously my chi was ALOT faster than the dane and knew just where he could hide while they were playing, if he had enough or if he just wanted to tease the dane, he'd pop under a table and that was it.

I think that as long as you supervise their play (for quite a long time), it should be not problem. We did have one accident, when the dane tripped over my chi, but it wasn't anything more than when I back up into my babies and catch a toe (you know while they are waiting for me to get their food ready)!!

I guess it depends on your boxer. My Lexy would probably be fine - she's very mellow (side effect of cardiomyopathy). But, Bailey - though extremely friendly - would probably kill a toy poodle in about 5 minutes, just by her rough play. She's never been aggressive or anything, she just plays rough and if Lexy weren't big enough to tell her to back off every once in a while, there would probably be trouble! A little poodle wouldn't stand a chance. I could never leave her alone with a dog that size!!

I have a tea cup Yorkie, Wynnston and my Boxer, Cayenne. Wynnie is now 3 1/2 and he just tolerates Cayenne who is 5 mths. They are begining to play a little bit but I do watch them at all times. Cayenne loves Wynnie and wants to play with him but they do not really know how. Wynnie just likes to boss Cayenne around and steal her toys. The good part about it is as I am trying to socialize Cayenne more she is really gentle with smaller dogs. I am not sure how your boxer likes puppies or smaller dogs. You might want to socialize your Boxer with some smaller dogs to see how it works before you decide to bring the poodle home.

Our neighbors down the street have a teacup poodle names Prince. When we first moved in Minnie was out in the yard palying and Prince came charching into the yard. Minnie was actually VERY intimidated...she had never seen a dog so small before. She stood very erect with her hackles up and Prince strutted around like he was Mr. BigStuff. It was really very very funny to see.

Minnie is much better with tiny dogs now - she became great pals with a Boston and they used to play all the time. Vinnie the Boston moved away though :( so Minnie currently only has big dogs to play with.

I have a teacup poodle that is 10 years old and I have a boxer that is 5 months old. I will have to say that the poodle (Sherry) tolerates my boxer (Angel). Angel doesn't really mess with her too much but I always watch them closely. Sherry just shows her pearly whites when she has had enough and Angel backs off. I say as long as you keep a watch on them they would do fine together.
