Boxer or Weimaraner

My sister in law has a weimeraner (he's about 7 years old) and he is absolutely gorgeous! He's extremely tolerant with their 3-year old daughter (who tends to be rough on doggies), and he was a little hyper as a pup (but that could be true of any breed) but he's very mellow now. He's a very big boy, though, he weighs about 90 pounds.

We've never gotten him together with our boxer because they live in Wisconsin and we live in Maryland. My other sis-in-law in NYC just got a dauschund. Now can you imagine that family gathering if we got all the "kids" together?

Last week, a man was sitting outside my vet's office with his all-white male boxer named Trucker. Of course, I can't just walk by a boxer, so while I was petting him and talking to his owner, the man's wife came out with their female weim. The dogs were so happy to see each other. The man said they are the best of friends.
As for remales being more dog aggressive, I don't think I agree, at least with my experience. Titus is dog aggressive but little Lady loves everyone. Funny, though, she and Titus get along great because the first day we had her, Titus thought he'd "test" her. She boxed him good and ever since then, they are the best of pals!
I would always say to go for a boxer.

We have a Weim in our training class, and I really don't know much about them, BUT I will say that he doesn't appear to be very hyper and also doesn't appear to be very affectionate. He doesn't seem to care much about his owner, never wags his tail and plays with the other dogs.

Don't know if this is just a weird one, but after getting used to being LOVED SO MUCH by my 6 month old Boxer, I wouldn't want a dog that appears so indifferent. So beautiful though, I do think they're stunning animals, and would probably recommend more research and maybe breeder visits (for myself!) before I would make such a decision.

Tess's best friend is a weimy. They absolutely adore each other. Breeze (the weimy) is very protective of her little buddy and if other dogs are too rough then she sends them packing. Mind you Tess and Breeze play EXTREMELY roughly. My friend and I walk the girls together twice a day and they go off! Breeze has taught my baby how to dominate little dogs and Tess has taught Breeze how to box though she'll never be as good at it.

One thing about Weimy's is that they need a lot of training and exersise and can be rather difficult if they don't get it.

When we first got Jake, our Border Mix, we had a Weim in our puppy class. It was so much bigger then all the other dogs except for a Rott. The Weim and Jake got along great but were also the two most dominant dogs in the class, always getting in trouble. They had a hard time trying to keep their dogs attention so it would always bark and jump in class. I guess like most people on the board I believe that they seem to be a lot of work, but definately gorgeous dogs. My uncle had one and he says it was the best hunting dog he ever had. Jake was enough work for us, but it payed off and now he does great, Tobee on the other hand is a huge spaz, he's wound up like a top 24-7 even after long walks and playtime at the parks. Good Luck. I had an English Pointer, absolutely beautiful liver and white dog. I had always wanted one and had him named yrs before I got one. The dog's father was a champion derby dog and mother a great hunter also. Big mistake for a pet. He was absolutely psycho! Ran for hours in the yard and would run till he dropped. If he got loose, would never come to you. We got our 1st boxer pup when the pointer was 4. No comparison. Taz only wanted to be with you, and Dylan could barely be petted. He had no concept of cuddling or snuggling. He was very aggressive also when people came to the house to the point where we had to put him in his crate. Finally two years later we gave him to a friend who also had a pointer. Hopefully he's happy now that he can run & hunt. I would never recommend these high hunter bred types as good house pets and now we have 3 boxers and would never have anything else. All they want to do is be with you all the time.
