I know exactly what you are saying, this is what I do to save my car :D
I put their beds on the back seat, and some pillows on the floor, that way is only one level and the seatbelts still work, so far has work out great for me ;) and is comfy for them too!

Good luck,

Lola :)

We have leather seats in our Suburban. I don't cover the seats with anything and have not had one problem with his nails scratching or puncturing the leather. I think that either way (covered or not) your leather will be fine :)

www.jbpet.com has something called "Soft Claws". I've been meaning to get them for Shotze. They are little plastic covers for the nails. You apply them with an adhesive and they last 4 to 6 weeks. Sounds to me like they might be a good choice for the problem your having.

Now that you remind me, I do use those on my cats (Softpaws). Only drawback is that my cats are masters at pulling them off.

I also have a mustang with leather seats. I was worried at first about Dozer scratching the leather and i used a blanket. But it never seemed to stay on so i took it off to see what would happen. So far no scratches or anything. Only problem is that he slides all around in the back seat.
