Hello
I have a 7.5 year old brindle boxer female spayed who is ill and possibly dying from Auto-immune mediated anemia (IMHA). We were told based on her blood counts that she had very little time to live. Two weeks ago she looked so ill and collasped from exhaustion just walking from one room to another.
Today, She runs, plays outside, goes up and down stairs, eats normal and is no longer lethargic. It is strange. Two weeks ago she was so ill we had to carry her to go outside and up the staircase. Now she looks healthy. Her gums are no longer pale, she eats normal, goes outside on her own, up and down stairs, her eyes are bright and she plays with our other boxer. She looks better now than she did a month ago. Very odd!
I understand with this disease it can take a month or two for a dog to pass. Our vet said it would be days or a week since her counts were so very low. It has been two weeks, and she looks so much better. It is strange. Please know that prior to her diagnosis of this IMHA, they thought she had a bad case of LYME which they gave her anitbiotics for. After the diagnosis we stopped these meds. The vet told us they were not going to help with her IMHA. So rather than force her to take meds with peanut butter we just stopped them.
Has anyone else had and experience with IMHA? What happened to your dog? What was the starting point and of course ending?
I am truly worried but so pleased she looks better. Whatever happens I am just so thankful, I have been allowed to be a part of my dog's life. She is by far the most Godlike creature I have ever met. I will cherish these days, weeks, months or maybe longer with her.
Thank you for your time.
