I love reading how others got their furr-babies.

Me. My friends had two boxers for many years. And I loved them dearly. I moved in for some reason or another & her female had puppies.

I didn't make a decision about adopting one, I left it up to a higher power and behold I lucked out, Ikaika picked me. lovicon

Since I have been a Boxer lover. Although my furrbabies have had a tough time I wouldn't give it up for the world. Someone asked me if I could do it over would I have choosen to keep him.

My answer was YES! I wouldn't change a thing. I wished he could have been 100% healthy all the time. But, hey. If he's happy, then I'm happy.

Scrapper's Mom

Boxer Insane
We grew up with dachshunds. We had them for years. When I got married, we always had two dogs, because two is better than one; they play together and keep each other occupied. My little male mini-dachsie died and for some reason, we decided we wanted a "real" dog (meaning "bigger than a dachshund"). One of my two best friends had a Boxer named "Max" Max is still with us, God willing, but pretty gray now and he is just a sweetheart. I always liked Max. Whenever I went to her house, Max would politely come up next to me and just wait to be petted. If I was busy talking, it didn't matter, he would wait.

So based on that, we decided to consider a Boxer. My sister has a Doberman, and we also considered that breed. As well as a Chocolate Lab. So we went to lots of dog shows, talked to breeders, did research online, got books and finally zeroed in on the Boxer. Then we settled in for a while, waiting for puppies to be available.

When we finally got Scrapper, it was love at first sight. He has been an adored member of the family ever since. Even though we wanted one and had chosen that breed, we weren't fully aware of their wonderful intuitive personalities until we got Scrapper. And since then we are all total Boxer-lovers here lovicon

When I was growing up my mom treated animals as if they were disposable. We must have had a hundred cats and dogs come and go. Used to break my heart to come home from school to find another good friend gone.

When I was about 9 our duplex neighbor had a boxer that spent all day tied to a tree, his name was MJ, and I will never forget this sweet boy. I decided two things, when I grew up my pets would have a home till they died of old age, and also that I would one day have a smush face baby! Well I have kept both promises to myself.

I didn't know then how much it can hurt when you have them so long and lose them to old age. As much as I loved ALL my pets, I just can't imagine what it is gonna be like with Gunner and Sammy who burrow sooooo deep into your heart...just reading about some of your losses make my heart skip a beat, and I can barely breathe thinking about it. But SO SO SO worth it all to be loved by a boxer!!!

Are you my long lost sibling??? This is EXACTLY what I went through as a kid. So excited walking home from school anticipating playing with my new puppy.... walk in the door, and poof! No puppy... puppy peed or pooped on the carpet. Off to the pound for new puppy :(

I always (for short periods) had Shih Tzu's growing up. We must have had 15 of them. But due to either a) my mom b) running away c) being stolen or d) being hit by cars, I never had one for more than maybe 3 years at at time. I never had a big dog.

But then I met Maggie. Sugar Magnolia, or Maggie for short. She was my best friend's boxer, and I absolutely loved her. She died of a tumor on her lung at 2 years old, the same age as my Louie now which scares me. But she was the first boxer I had ever loved.

After she passed, I got Louie. The rest is history. I know I will always want to have a boxer by my side....

I have never had a dog before... Just a turtle growing up and was not much
of an animal lover.

My husband always wanted a boxer but lived in an apartment growing up that didn't allow dogs.

Keep in mind we were married for 6 months just bought a house that was undergoing MAJOR construction...
It was a rainy Saturday and He dragged me around looking at dogs with no intention of getting one (so I thought) and then..... we saw this little baby girl boxer... Needless to say, she has been a part of the family since Feb. 22 2003.

I can't believe I made it these past 31 years without a dog (boxer) in my life.
We both love Nestle more that we could have ever imagined.

Can't wait to get home and give her big kisses!!!!!!

I really loved reading through this thread. There is so much history of companionship.

I met a boxer for the first time in Junior High... this flashy fawn that owned the 1 acre lot next door was the definition of a beautiful dog in my mind. I knew that was the type of dog I wanted. Not to mention, his family had young kids and I remember sitting in their living room holding their new baby. Charlie (the boxer) walked right up to me... checking me out to make sure his new baby was okay in my arms!! Such a sweetie. So many years later I have one of my own. Lael is my first boxer, and is now 3.5 months old.

Looking forward to making a history with my boxers. :)

Completely Boxer Crazy
Wonderful stories!

When I was growing up we only had cats and quite a few, we lived on a large property in the country side, there was maybe 4 other houses on my street. When I was about 11 a little girl my age moved on my street and we became best friends. Soon after they moved on the street they bought a puppy a dalmatien and then a second one a doberman, I spent the next few years mostly at her house on weekend and started loving dogs, learning to take care of them and train them.
Over a year ago, my boyfriend and I decided we would like to have a dog. We started looking at different breeds who would best suit our personalities. Well we decided on the boxer, but I must admit we really feel in love with the breed the first time we went to the breeders for an interview, just experiencing that bundle of energy in person was wonderful!!! Right then and there we knew we wouldn't want any other breed.

It's still love at first sight every time I see my sweet baby's face look at me! I can't imagine my life without him.

My DH and I had just gone through a rough two years. We had lost our 12 year old Beagle to heart disease and both of our cats to our niehbors Rottweiler. I swore after burying our beagle, Suzy, I wasn't getting anymore pets. We were at hunting camp and it was kind of a gloomy day. My girlfriend and I were sitting by the fire cooking dinner when out of no where comes this Boxer puppy. He was the cutest, sweetest dog I had ever seen. His name was Scruffy and he was visiting from Georgia with some hunters in the next camp. It took about 3 months of me thinking of him and how he cheered me up that day to decide I had to have one. My husband was so thrilled when I told him I was ready and we have never regretted our decision to get one.
