How did you get hooked on Boxers? Who was the first and how long have you had one by your side?

I was looking through the picture gallery of all the beautiful boxers out there and wondering how some of you guys came to love this breed so much? My family got our first boxer when I was 8 years old in Athens, Greece. We made frequent trips to a local pet store for aquarium supplies and they had a boxer for sale. The whole family loved to look at him. One day we went for a walk to the pet store and he was gone. Even though no one had talked about buying him we were all sad that we would not see him again. Several weeks later we walked into the store to buy fish food and there was a lady with the boxer on a leash yelling at the store owner and her son shaking his head. The son spoke a little english and explained that her mom did not want the boxer (son bought it without permission) and he was terrorizing her 8 cats! My dad without even thinking offered to buy the dog off of her and that was it...Rocky I was ours. I am an animal lover but the boxer with its sweet face will always be the one that holds my heart!! We have had one in our family for the last 25 years and we will never go without for too long.

What a great thread!!!

We always had animals when I was growing up...so needless to say I am an animal lover. The last childhood dog I had was a Bassethound. Toby was about 16 years old and he was an absolute joy to me!!! he died when I was 9 months pregnant with my son ...Iwas devastated and a complete wreck.

After my son was born my hubby and I adopted 2 mixed breed pippies who we still have. I had always loved the look of boxers so when I decided I neded another dog I was torn between a boxer and an amstaff. I happened to stumble upon a friend of a friend whos purebred boxer was pregnant and there was my decision. I got Sabrina almost 9 months ago and I am in total love with the whole boxer breed!!!! I have found my dog of choice(not that I dont love my other animals as much) but there is something special about boxers and Sabrina is wonderful with my kids (ages 5and 3) . So that is my story of how I got my Sabrina.

Great thread!

My father passed ont he boxer bug to me. Rocky is my first boxer baby and although I am a true animal lover.. there is no doubt in my mind that boxers will be the ones I share my life with!

What got me wanting a Boxer? They are majestic, loyal, they have
excellent personalities, and just great dogs! They have the woo woo song that melts your heart I was watching a show on tv, and they had a complete profile of Boxers. After that, I did some
in depth research on the breed, spoke to reputable breeders,
and my vet about Boxer health, and went to my library and got alot of great books on the breed I just think they are fabulous
dogs They are very expressive facially Who couldn't want one after they look at you with those eyes? They will love you no matter what Their kidney beaning is really funny All part of a
completely great dog!

when I was growing we always had mutts or poddles. When I got marry my husband wanted a husky so we had one. I like rescue and had to have a grayhound and we did but he only want to be with me did not like the rest of the family, husband and 2 boys. When he past away I wanted to get a dog that would love the whole family. So I did alot of reading. I settled on the boxer. Called rescue and now I will never own another breed.
We have had Capone for 2 yr now he is 5 yrs old and planning on my next boxer. WE all love this dog and he loves all of us.

I have always loved animals (especially dogs..)ever since I was a little girl. I actually used to go from doghome to doghome in our neighbourhood, and ask if I could please walk their dog..:rolleyes: Crazy girl..
Me and my brother was always asking our parents if we could get one, and when I was 9 they finally said yes!
My parents had 2 boxers before they got us, so of course the choice of breed was easy So we got our little brindle girl Janka, and I fell completely in love... We had to put her to sleep 9 years later because of cancer.. I was with her until the very end, and it was the worst day of my life.. :(

3 years later, me and my boyfriend started talking about getting a dog. Well lets just say, he never had a saying in what kind of breed it was going to be.. :D

So, the 23 th of October our little brindle boxer boy came into our lives lovicon

I had grown up with poodles and dauchund's (sp?). I lost the poodle I had for 11 years in a house fire and was devastated, and convinced I would never have another dog. Hubby was in the military for 14 years, so it never made sense to add a furry baby to our family - moving in and out of base housing, some allow pets, some don't. My dad got a boxer about 8 years ago, Rocky, and I fell in love with him. I didn't go to visit my dad anymore, I went to visit Rocky! We finally settled down in MI and I started working with an all-breed rescue. Fostered a couple of Labs, they weren't my thing...LOL.... Then came my foster boy Chester, he was with us for only a week when someone starting inquiring about him. Told the hubby -- now or never -- and that's the story of my spoiled rotten little boy Chester. Now I work with Mid-Michigan Boxer Rescue and have a foster boy Hogan, who is just a doll. No one can convince me that Boxer's aren't the BEST!!

My family has always had small dogs or cats ever since I was young. A little over two years ago one of my friends at work said his boxer had just had puppies and I should take one. For a couple of weeks he told me that when they were ready to leave their mom that I should get one I still said thats all right I didnt want one. Then one day his wife brought the pups by work and one look at them and I had to have one so a few weeks later when they were ready I went and picked up Daisy. Now I'll never own another breed. A year later I had to have another one so got Rosco best decisions I ever made.

What a lovely topic!

Well, I have in the past seen Boxers and loves the look of them although I guess that I never really thought about getting one until last year!

We wanted a dog but needed something not too monstronomous! We wanted something gorgeous......trainable and friendly! Jon mentioned Boxers and so we looked on the net at them! We found this website where you could put pics up of puppies for sale. We saw a pic of Bella and that was it. Love at first sight. We hadnt planned on doing something that quick.....it just happened so fast! We called the breeder and went to see her 2 days later.......we feel in love with her! She was jumping all over us and then fell asleep. We HAD to have her! She had been let down by someone who was going to buy her and was 12 weeks old.

That was it! We had a long chat with the breeder, her mum Taz was there too so we could see her and it was just all perfect! appicon We brought her home that day in the car and I held her close! We have never looked back!

Since owning her we have got really involved in the whole boxer thing! In fact we want another one! She is just perfect.....our lil furbaby!

That's it really......it all started with a general discussion and a picture.....the next thing we knew there was this little bundle of joy running around!
