Has anyone had an problems w/acne? I think Yogi may have it. Its on his chin. Seems like its really not bothering him. Not sure if thats what it is. But its sort of inflamed looking and red. Wondering if anyone has any stories they can share w/me.
Thanks........

Sasha gets it all the time. Sometimes they pop and ooze a bit but we wipe her face after each meal and that seems to help. Also, when weused to crate her she would chew the sides and would get a break out. Now only we we leave her at the kennel do I notice itb/c they kennel her at night.

Hoss had a LOT of acne on his chin and muzzle, from about 7-8 months until recently. It seems to have cleared up in the last month, so I hope he has grown out of it. He was a mess, always scraping his chin on things and making it bleed.

His pimples looked really bad, so the vet prescribed a benzoyl peroxide clear gel when we were in the office for something else. Wash the skin with a warm wet washcloth, then dry and apply. After researching the cream a little, I could have just gone and picked up some Oxy10 BP cream for a lot less at the drugstore! Next time, I'll know better.

Heidi Gets that all the time. I clean her chin daily with stridex pads for sensitive skin. it seems to dry it out.

Cosmo had the chin acne also. Our vet explained it was most likely a food allergy. We were giving him Science Diet on her recommendation but after doing our own research and with the help and advice from this board we switched foods. After switching him to Nature's Prairie Variety, it all cleared up and he hasn't had a problem with it since. He also had less tummy troubles and his fur is sooo soft!

Edgar Has Acne

Edgar almost a year has acne now and again. Its usually one or two pimples. I have acne meds and benadryl from the vet. It goes away on its own usually or I put cream on it from the vet.

Acne occurs with most of the "smushy faced" breeds like Boxers, Pugs, etc. Rocky used to get it when he was younger, but as he's gotten older it happens less and less. Using either stainless steel or plastic bowls helps a lot. They harbor less bacteria than plastic bowls (due to scratches in the plastic).

R.J. has re-occurring acne also, especially when he is stressed. Using a stainless steel bowl helps, but you still need to wash it after each feeding with hot soapy water. Keeping the bowl clean helps with the acne more than anything, however, I also wash his face with a warm washcloth after eating (no soap). Different things can trigger the acne in dogs, just like people. Allergies may be a culprit, but sometimes it is hormonal, sometimes it is triggered by stress, and sometimes it's simply from smooshing thier faces into a greasy food bowl. I would try changing your bowls to stainless steel (if they aren't already) and washing them after each feeding. If that doesn't help, then you can try different things on the acne itself, but with the advise of your veterinarian. I would be hesitant to use any abrasive soaps or over the counter acne medications without veterinary consult. I hope it gets better.
