I got my dog from the pound and he was not fixed until then. He never mounted anything, not even our old roommates unfixed rottie until the first time we encountered another boxer. He mounted it so he must have been bred and recognizes that it was only with that breed. He only mounts boxers. He also doesn't really get along with most boxers, he's too dominant to put up with boxing.

Ya, I have found that Jack Russell's don't like boxers... or at least every one I've ever come in contact with. Also, those herding dogs... um, they sometimes have different colored eyes, and multi colored fur... they're not that attractive, I just can't remember the name of them... herding dogs of some sort... those always pick fights with my dog. Most.. well actually almost ALL small dogs usually don't like my dog either.

My Jacob has always been a very social dog. A German Shepard tried to nip him once, but they turned out to be best friends! One year, at my company picnic, I decided to introduce Jacob to my boss's Boxer, Max. They side stared each other just a little too long, you could just tell one of them were going to do something. To my surprise, it was my Jacob, he nipped at Max! Since then Jacob has never met another boxer nor has he ever shown any aggression!!

hehehe, all the jack russels i've ever met hate everybody :D i hate to insult any jack russel owners out there, but i have never met a jack russel that didn't try to attack me or my dogs. i own a pug/russel cross, so i guess that my lola has the personality of a pug :P. or perhaps i've only ever met badly socialized russels???? ah well!

I have a Jack Russel and I must say he HATES my boxer, and most other dogs as well. I thought it was just his personality until I saw the way other Jack Russels behave. They are just a very opinionated breed I guess :), very fiesty little guys. I love my Jack Russel to death, but he is definitely not a Boxer, (or really any other kind of dog) lover!

First I want to say that it is NOT your resposibility to "watch" your dogs when it was that guys dogs with the problem of aggression towards boxers! What the heck was he doing in the dogpark anyway knowing that HIS dogs have this agrression issue!!
As for dogs not liking specific breeds, yes...that is very much possible! My Xena has been attacked by this certain Jack Russel MANY times and she definately has developed a real "hate-on" for Russels! She has been more socialized than Spirit has because unfortunately where we live, there is not much opportunity to socialize him. The only closest dogpark is out of town, I don't have a car. Most of the time I have to keep him away from any dog. :( For the first time since living in this house (2 1/2 yrs) there is now a dog next door. She is a chow/shephard/akita mix and has been abused in the past. I cannot let Spirit outside when she is out because they almost tear through the fence to get at each other! I really would hate to see what could happen if they ever did come face to face!

I don't think that dogs can have an aversion to a particular breed. How could they possibly know which breed another dog is? Does every breed have a different smell or something? I think the man was just being a jerk. Another thing-Jack Russells are feisty little guys. The only serious fight Beau has been in was with my brother's Jack Russell, Ripken. They tend to think more of themselves than other dogs do.

Our oldest boy, Trooper Thorn, has a strong dislike of what we call "the big fuzzy dogs"; huskies, german shepherds, akitas, chows, etc. It's extremely unfortunate because we can't trust him at dog parks or doggie day care. I don't know what happened to trigger it, but about a year ago, he started getting into fights, and it was always with these types of dogs.

We have been working with him on leash on walks & whenever we see one of these dogs heading our way, we make him sit or lie down, and while the other dog passes by, we power feed him bits of cheese or other treats while we fuss over him & say "look at that big fuzzy dog; good boy!". We are hoping to get him to associate these dogs with a positive feeling (i.e. lots of treats) so maybe he will mellow, but we don't want to rush him.

Fortunately, he's got a boxer brother at home that he gets along great with, and we've arranged a few play dates with friends dogs in controlled enviroments, so he's able to burn off some of his energy, but I sure wish I could take him to the dog park again.

I agree that the man that said his dog doesn't get along with boxers should be watching his dog closely, but isn't it good, too, that he was responsible enough to give you a heads up so you could be more aware, too?
