Book Rental?

Here in Indiana we have to pay book rental for grades K-12. My 7th grade son's rental fees are $122. My 10th grade daughter's are $300! Not to mention, new shoes, clothes and supplies. I'm feeling the pinch!

How do other states handle book rental?

when i was in school we didnt have to rent books, and as far as i know, we still dont... that just seems absurd...

here in ny where i live we dont have book rental fees, if the book is lost at the end of the year then they may say you have to replace it but not all the time.(i know from experience i got lucky one year and didnt have to replace the book my son lost.)

i was going to add that... that is the only time ive ever heard of paying for a school book
