Needs so positive prayers.... going to check out a skin tag that continues to grow. Not too worried about that. I am worried about the 2 growths in his mouth. I know they are going to need to be removed. Hoping they are not cancerous. I don't know if I can go thru that again.... Just a consult today.

Any experience with these types of growths? What should I expect after removal. Guess I'm going to get his teeth cleaned while we are in there??

I'm just sick thinking about it all. I'm trying to be positive but I'm not gonna lie I'm scared to hear what the doc has to say. Thanks for letting me vent.

A couple of months ago, one of my dogs chewed a plastic plant pot found in the yard and wedged a piece of plastic in his gum. When under anaesthetic to remove it, the vet found a large mass growing up from the floor of his mouth, into his tongue. That was a shocker if ever there was one.

He had surgery and the tumour was able to be removed cleanly, but the center of Charlies's tongue was lost also ( like a donut ). Recovery was amazingly unremarkable. He took painkillers the first night, and antibiotics as a precaution for 2 weeks, but he ate his normal slightly moistened kibble with gusto from the next day and didn't seem to suffer any ill effects at all. The vet told us that kibble is easier to eat with a sore tongue, than soft mushy food ( the opposite of what we would have thought ) as a dog will just swallow kibble down, rather than lapping with the tongue if the food is sloppy.

The vet reassured us that most mouth tumours in dogs are non-cancerous, and sure enough the histology came back benign.

Sending lots of positive vibes that your boy has a similarly positive outcome.

Good luck at the vet Bode! I hope you get a good report. Here's some <<<<<healthy vibes>>>>> for you.

Hardt had some growths removed from his mouth a year or so ago. Our vet called them gingavial hyperplasia (sp?) or some other big words for extra gum tissue. One of the growths was almost covering one of his back teeth. She basically had to shave down the gum back to normal size. Since she cut his gum and didn't want him to chew, we soaked his kibble, only soft treats, and gave him pain meds for 4 or 5 days, until his recheck. We realized after he was all healed, that he was eating better than before the removal. I guess it was gradual, but we didn't notice how slow he had been eating previously. Our vet said those areas were more tender than regular gum tissue so he must have had some discomfort eating. Here's hoping Bode has the same thing! Let us know what the vet says.

Cami had an epulis removed. Non-cancerous and recovery was instant (at least she never acted like she was in pain and certainly never missed a meal).
Most common type of tumor in dogs and especially common in Boxers.
Sending many prayers and positive energy that it is nothing to be worried about!

Thanks for the prayers. Vet doesn't seem too worried. He is going to removed them and clean his teeth and then remove the skin tag all at the same time. We are going to send them out for testing and peace of mind. No hard toys or chewies for 2 weeks!! I am going to have one very unhappy boy. Calling today to try to schedule for the 13th. Not sure if that is a good day or not, 14 years ago that day we lost our very first boxer Bubby.....

I'm glad you changed the date! I am terrible like that with dates/numbers.
Raine was scheduled for a holter on Feb. 17.......the day I lost Cami. There was NO WAY I was going to go anywhere near a vet office on that day.
I am sure it doesn't mean anything but if it keeps us a bit more sane then it is worth it! cool2icon
