Hello everyone. I live in CT and it has been cold and snowy this winter. Right now the snow on the ground is frozen and hard. Whenever I take Marco out to play he ends up with bloody paws from getting little cuts around his nails from the hard snow.
Booties don't help beacause they come right off when he goes on his crazy run! I've stopped taking him to his girlfriends house because they both end up with bloody paws. I clean his paws when we come in so they don't get infected, It doesn't seem to bother him at all! It is very hard to keep him entertained inside! My husband and I work opposite shifts so he gets playtime all day long anyway, but I know he'd rather just run around outside! Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, actually just yesterday Lola had her country friend Jazz over for a romp. After about twenty minutes outside in the crusty snow, Lola was bleeding a bit from all four paws. We took her in and cleaned her up. She didn't seem to even notice and exhibited no signs of discomfort. Looks fine today.

I use 3M's Vetwrap on Mugsy's paws because he drags them. It is a horse product and costs about $2 a roll. It is available at most tack shops and feed/supply stores. It is a sticky bandage that adheres to itself and holds up fairly well to being dragged on concrete, ice and the like. It is most often used as a bandage, but is flexible enough that it might work as a bootie--for 2 bucks it's worth a shot, right? Maybe it will even survive the "crazy run"!

Bella has been bleeding after a hard romp in the yard with her friend. I thought she was the only one. We clean her up and spray with linocane(sp?) after she comes in. She doesn't seem to be bothered by any of it...

My sister is using the booties with great success. Maybe you could try a different type? The salt and snow can really cut up dogs feet.
