bleeding pimples??

Tucker's got what I'm guessing are pimples on his chin and upper lip. Sometimes he has one or two, but sometimes he has a bunch (like right now!). He got a rawhide chew a few days ago. Could this be contributing? Also between the rawhide and Kaia the pimples keep getting scratched open and bleeding like crazy. Half the Christmas toys and occasionally Kaia have blood on them. Is there anything I can do to stop the bleeding? make it not hurt? help it heal? I feel so bad for the poor guy. I bought some oxy pads, but I don't want to use those on open sores. I was thinking about going to the drug store and getting some mild soap like phisoderm or something to wash his face with, would that help?

First of all, does he eat from plastic bowls? They tend
to harbor bacteria more than stainless steel. Switching
to stainless will probably solve the problem.

In the meantime, though, ckeep it clean (wipe up especially
after meals). I'm sure someone will chime in with a
specific human product that's safe to use on the chin.
(You have to be somewhat careful because they can lick
off whatever ointment you use. Cleanliness is the most
important thing until it heals)

If he doesn't eat from plastic bowls, it's possible that
he got it from rubbing his chin on the floor or rug while
chewing the rawhide, if he's particularly obsessed about
it and wouldn't stop when he got rug burn

Definetly try stainless steel bowls, if you don't use them already. My boy had a problem with acne on his chin when we used plastic bowls and the switch helped clear it up. Sorry, I don't have any advise on helping the opened pimples heal.

Ruby get them at times and I wash them with peroxide and then put neosporin on them. I asked my vet if it's safe for me to put these on him and she said yes. It does help heal a bit faster. I hope this helps.

Neosporin has been a god send to me for any skin problems (kids and dogs) except my boxer's mange. I tried neosporin on the mange for 2 weeks and it made no difference...try that and if it doesn't work, I would go to the vet for a skin scraping!

Acne is very common in boxers especially between the ages of 8mths and 18 mths and sometimes in pregnant bitches.

A very good product designed specifically for this is OXYDEX GEL.

It may be labled under a different name for America and Canada so ask your vet about it.

I am sure they will know what it is.

Acne dosnt seem to worry dogs unless a secondary infection is present.

Jake had pimples as a pup, too.

Stainless Steel bowls, no rawhide or rubber toys, no peanut butter, no fun.

In the end, he was allergic to his food. Since my vet fed his dogs the same brand, he didn't agree with me that the food was the issue, since in itself the dog didn't have pimples, but other issues like paw chewing and runny puffy eyes (Benedryl recommended).

It was like being on the verge of an allergic reaction contantly, and anything ADDED like the toys or rawhide got all the blame.

Now he's on a different brand of food. (Premium Edge, but all dogs are different). He can enjoy rawhide and even a little Peanut Butter, because the primary Allergen was removed from the picture.

Sometimes, this Allergen is Laundry Detergent, dust, Pollen, Rawhide, Plastic Bowls (which are just nasty- get Stainless ) but I learned the hard way that sometimes the cure is so simple that its overlooked, or ignored "because the Vet doesn't think so).
