There are 'reverse brindle' Boxers that look almost black and they are commonly referred to as 'Black Boxers'. They are beautiful dogs that are every bit as purebred as your fawn.

I am confused. The description of the Am. Bulldog you found says, "The short, harsh coat comes in combinations of solid or varying degrees of white, all shades of brindle, brown, red, or tan." NOWHERE does it say black. I agree with Canuck. My BREEDER (very reputable) has a "reverse" brindle that definitely looks black until you are up close. This dog is a champion and 100% boxer.

When I first bought Pru I took her to the lady I bought Tyson from to show her. Her first reaction was "A black Boxer". She looked very black but if you looked closly you could see stripes on her sides. Now that she is older her stripes are much more noticable. I don't know if she would still be considered a reverse brindle but she is very dark and her back has no stripes. In most pictures though she still looks black.

We've had this discussion before.
I highly doubt that anyone on this board (or anywhere else) has an American Bulldog and thinks it's a boxer.

No- there is technically no such thing as a black boxer.
However, there are some brindle boxers where the stripes are so many and so close that the overall coat color does look black.

I saw a "black" boxer and swore he was black. However, I took a photo and you can see some stripes in the picture. :)

Im just varifying what Linda said about the "black boxer" we saw. He really did look black until Linda got the photo back.

I saw a black boxer at the dog park recently. Had a black coat with white chest markings. Turns out he was a Boxer/Boston Terrier mix.

Was the Boxer/Boston mix very large? My husbands aunt raises Bostons and they are all fairly small. I would think it would be hard to breed a Boxer and a Boston but I'll bet it was pretty.

I have a black boxer, and only at about a year did some brown brindle markings show through on his shoulders. You have to look very hard to even see it. He is registered as a black and white. After many phone calls and pictures sent.As far as a bull dog.I don't think any of the dogs in his blood line had even seen a bull dog, let alone mated with one.

i was told white boxers are considered american bulldogs to is that true and why, they are just as pure bred as the fawn and white.
