Thank you all so much for your concern. I just got off the phone with the dog warden. It turns out this is not the first report they have had on this dog three weeks ago he killed another neighbors two cats. One was killed at the owners home and the other died at the vets. The owners were warned that they must restrain their dog at all times and have him licenced and his shots brought up to date because at that time he wasn't licenced and didn't have his shots the warden is checking with the town clerk as we speak to see if the owners did have this dog licenced or not. I hadn't known there was a problem with this dog before because where i live people are considered your neighbor even if they live a mile away. He said he was going to go speak with the owners but nneded to find out if the dog had been licensed first because if not he would have to hold the dog at the humane society for ten days before they decided what action to take. On one hand i feel sorry for the dog but when it comes to the point of my dogs or any other animals or humans saftey if the owners can't be responsable enough to keep the dog under control I really don't know what else to do. I also would hate for this dog to be put to sleep but if the owners wont control him it doesn't look like there are too many other options. I would really like to go give the owners a piece of my mind but right now i am so mad and upset i just know it would turn ugly. I hate people like that if you can't be responsable for your animals then you shouldn't have any. If this dog ends up getting put down I'll feel so guilty and i know i shouldn't but it just makes me so upset. Sorry i just really need to vent! Thank you all for being such a wonderful supportive group of caring people.

OMG! I'm so sorry to hear about Biscuit.
But on the other hand, pleased that the incident is being taken care of by proper authorities. I would also encourage a suit to claim damages at least to cover the costs of Biscuit's vet bills and care during her recovery. Irresponsible owners should be punished!!! Imagine, even the owner is afraid of her own dog. Geez! Doesn't that say something!

I hope she makes a speedy recovery and is back to her old self in no time :)

Keep us updated!

Jess, what a horrible, frightening situation! I hope that Biscuit is ok and wish for a very speedy recovery. It is an absolute miracle that you and your horse escaped injuries also - I am so thankful!

This dog is dangerous and needs to be reported. It wasn't trying to WARN Biscuit, it was trying to KILL Bisquit. I think that the owner should be responsible for your entire vet bill - Biscuit was on a leash, did not provoke and was not on their property. The chow was not restrained and it's owner did nothing to help prevent or handle the situation.

The inaction of the chow's owner is shocking and inexcusable. But, I think that you should TALK to her before considering a lawsuit.

I commend you! I can not imagine how you were able to keep a horse calm while disengaging a dogfight, fending off a continued attack and tending to a badly injured animal. I would have been very tempted to use the crop on the chow's owner had she yelled at me!!!

I am very glad you called the Dog Warden. It seems that this dog has a history of violent attacks. This Chow graduated from killing Cats to attacking Dogs, next he will be after Humans! He must be stopped and the owner held responsible for it's actions. I feel terrible for the Chow, he will more then likely lose his life due to his owners inabilaty to properly train and care for him.

My thoughts are with you and Biscuit. Please keep us informed as to the results of the Wardens actions.

Well I just got off the phone with the warden again. I am really tempted to go beat the crap out of this woman. It turns out the dog is still not licensed and still doesn't have it's shots. The warden is coming in about twenty minutes and I have to go over with him and a police officer to her house so we can both state or situation. I just hope I can keep my temper under control. I'm not usually one to get this angry but I would just love to sock her one for biscuit's sake and the chow's also. As the warden told me he is going to ask for the dog to be put down since this isn't the first incedent and the owners have failed to comply with the conditions set when the dog killed the cats. He also told me that there will be a hearing to decide the dogs fate and I and the owner of the other dog MUST be present. I also talked to the vet and bis is still shocky but the pain meds and iv fluids seem to be helping. She will have to go to the vets daily for at least two weeks for wet to dry bandage changes and will have to stay again tommorow night to make sure she is out of the woods. I would have rather had the dog attack me then to see my baby in pain. After the warden comes i'm going back to the vets with my husband to check on her and bring her her favorite blankey and stuffed toy. I can't stand the thought of leaving her there alone.

I'm very sorry to hear about Biscuit. You did the right thing by calling the warden. Try to realize that even if this dog ends up being put down, this is not his first attack, and the owner had been warned to correct the situation. It is NOT your fault!

I would strongly encourage you to call a lawyer. Biscuits medical bills will probably be quite high, and while I am sure you are more than ready to pay them, you should not have to. I would have a lawyer draft a letter to the chow's owner, along with a copy of the medical bills, and give her this choice...pay up or go to court.

Gentle hugs to Miss Biscuit.

Hope Biscuit is doing better now. Give her boxery slobbers form Draco. You have done the right thing. Irresponsible owners should never have dogs.

I totally agree. I'm sure the owner will be going through a lot of stress, but definitely NOTHING compared to what you must be experiencing. You're poor baby! I watch Judge Wapners animal court ( :))all the time and since your dog was on a leash and you were not on her property than she is liable.(Could be different in your state.) He likes his plaintiffs to have vet records, notes, copy of bill, pictures, affidavit from warden and neighbor, and witnesses. If you have all those, then you have a better chance of winning because they can see exactly what happened.

Good luck, I will be thinking of you and you puppy. I hope she has a good recovery, and hang in there!

What a terrible experience for you and biscuit. Hopefully she will be ok and not have any problems in the future because of this attack.

Please don't feel badly if this dog is put down. I have a feeling that if it is not put down then it will only attack someone else's dog or a person - like someone said earlier it may be excalating in severity. This dog has to date attacked 3 dogs(you said several so Im assuming at least 2 + biscuit), killed 2 cats, and bitten a human - and this may not be a complete list - there may be other incidents that we aren't aware of. It is sad that the owners cannot control their dog. It doesn't look like they are even concerned! If they were they would have made sure he had his shots and licence after the last incident. Plus with the chows track record - what was it doing off leash when there were people and animals close by. That woman really must be a piece of work!!!! Sorry it makes me really angry.

I'm glad that the police are taking this seriously - the owners of that dog need to (finally)be held accountable.

Best wishes to biscuit for a full and speedy recovery.
