I feed Lael Wellness Puppy. I switched her to Wellness about 3 weeks ago, and have noticed an incredible difference! Leal had extreme dry skin before I started feeding her Wellness. You would not believe how wonderful her skin and coat looks and feels! She itches less, and even has less eye boogies. :D I'm not an expert on foods, but the following is what I have found out from my little experience:

Firstly, dogs love tasty food. You can get creative to make the food more appealing to your pup: raw egg yolk and cooked egg white (the whites are harder to digest raw, although some dogs do just fine with an entire raw egg), brown rice, cottage cheese, liver peices, etc. These also have good nutritional benefit for your pup. If your dog just hates its kibble and won't eat it without wet food or a tasty treat, it may be a good idea to switch and try something else that he/she might like more. (Remember that puppies can be pickier eaters. They will probably grow out of it.)

Second, I recommend any of the food that have been mentioned above. These really are the most oustanding quality for your money, from my research.

Third, feeding on a schedule helped me out a lot. Put the food down the same time every day for 15 minutes. If during that time your pup doesn't eat or doesn't finish, take the food away and don't feed them until the next meal. They will soon figure out that if they are hungry, they must eat when the food is there.

When switching from a kibble with lots of grain filler (ie. corn) to a food like Wellness, keep in mind that foods without fillers are fed in smaller quantities because they are more "rich".

Sorry if this is too much info. I tend to be long-winded.smashicon Hope it can help!

Nutro Max Puppy kibble (light purple bag) mixed with cottage cheese one day, wet Nutro Max Puppy the next, and feta cheese the next. Otis loves the variety and is really thriving. He started out a scrawney runt and is not pushing 50 lbs at 6 months. Great coat, great teeth, great stools. Now, if I could just keep him out of the kitty food!!!

I would suggest you stop giving a 13 week boxer large breed adult food as it is not a correct nutrition for him. He needs a very specific diet which you can find in most of the best Large breed puppy food. I use Eukanuba and it is the best you can find here(europe) but I don't think you get it over there because I never heard someone mention it on this site.

If you do a search on the search engine, you'll find that we don't talk about Eukenuba because it is a pretty low grade food compared to the many choices already listed in this post.

Also you can search for the World Dog Journal annual best food list to see what they recommend.

I have my 2 boxers on Canidae. My 2 year old female's coat is as soft as a mink coat. It's unbelievable... I can't stop petting her! And my 8 month old male's coat has improved as well... but he still has some pet dander. They both eat it up very quickly. I highly recommend it!

We just got our "baby" last week... He's 9 weeks old. He eats Ol'Roy High Protein. This is a Wal-Mart brand food, but our breeder has been breeding Boxers for 38 years and said this is the best they've found. I'm sure there are better/ more expensive foods out there... but sometimes simpler is better. Harley Loves his food, I add a little warm water to it and a half a hard boiled egg... he also like noodles in his food. We use the adult high protein formula, it has the same ingredients as the puppy formula, but 2% more protein... We were also told that boxers need a high protein diet, and because of their sensitive tummies, Ol'Roy worked the best.

But, you should just read around and see hwat suits your and your doggie, a really expensive dog food might not be what he wants, but you might find he's happier with a cheaper brand which is just as good a quality.

Just my thought... Harley scarfs down his food, the vet told us that its a good food, and our breeder with a 38 year experience with the breed says its good, not to mention it doesnt hurt the wallet any... I'm sticking with it :)

Good Eats

Mason is three years old now and when he was a pup I fed him a mixture of IAMS large breed puppy lamb and rice formula mixed with a bit of BILJAC. I slowly decreased the BilJac over time and now he just eats IAMS mini chunks ( for some reason won't eat the larger chunks of dry food) Now that we have Aspen (a ge 6 wks) I am doing the same thing! Mason is a strong healthly boy wtih a great coat. Not sure if this is why but it seemed to work

Puppy food

I started out giving Boris Nutro large breed puppy food when he was 13 weeks. But it was too rich for his stomach. His bowels never adjusted to it. My vet suggested plain old Purina dog chow. His stomach improved, but still had problems. I switched to Bil-Jac puppy food a couple of months ago, and he is doing very well with it. he seems to like the taste, and at 9 months, he just hit 62 pounds. His stools are solid and consistent...
