13 wks puppy does not like his food

Hello, I am pretty torn between the breeder's insisting on feeding Bill Jack puppy and the vet claiming it cis too high in fat content. The vet suggested something more common like the science formula or the Eucanuba. The puppy is telling me something else: he does not like either and is beginning to eat less and less. Would you have any suggestions?

I guess the question now is, should we start a new thread about any pro's/con's of Large Breed Puppy/Dog Food?

Well I am not sure about the large breed dog food causing hip dysplasia, I think a moderator would know exactly how to answer that. But, I do know that boxers are not large breed dogs, they are actually medium size and do not require large breed dog food.

You are much better off to LISTEN to your puppy! Another thing you can do is compare the ingredients of the foods listed in the poll on this board, to those in the the above mentioned brands.

Canidae and similar quality dog food is a bit higher in price, but there is a benefit that most people don't talk about. Since they are of higher quality and all, it takes less per meal vs the others. Which translates into you not having to handle the food twice. Twice? What goes in has to come out, and we definitely saw a noticeable difference (or would that be a big/small difference) in the amount we were having to clean up after them. :)

Hi Emily,

Yep, we found out right quick that Boxers are a medium size breed. I also agree about not being sure of any correlation between the type dog food being fed and dysplasia. Since the post you cited is almost 2 years old, and no one else has responded I think it is a moot point.

A train of though about dog food we have adopted is, unless it is absolutely medically necessary, we will feed our Boxers a complete food. One that they can be fed from puppy-hood to well into old age.
