I've been following the recent outbreak of samonella in peanut butter and more and more products are being recalled daily. The company which is blamed for the outbreak is a supplier of peanut butter and peanut paste to many companies which make secondary products w/ their ingredients. I have not seen any dog snack related recalls, but keep in mind that the investigation is in it's early stages and all recalls are voluntary at this point. Just something to keep in mind if you feed any peanut butter products and your pup shows signs of illness. Here is an article which explains the outbreak. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090117/ap_on_re_us/salmonella_outbreak

Thank you for bringing that to our attention. I somewhat knew about a peanut butter recall, but didn't realize that the crackers I bought last weekend were some of the ones (Austin). I am going to throw them away, or put them back somewhere with strict orders not to touch.
Never gave dog treats a thought though.

OK, so I saw an alert this morning and sure enough they have expanded the recall. This list now confirms that they are in fact recalling some lots of "pet food" paste, and "feed grade" peanut butter. http://www.fda.gov/oc/po/firmrecalls/peanutcorp301_09.html

Now it will be up to the individual manufacturers of any possibly infected products to voluntarily recall them. I personally am not waiting for that and have tossed my bag of peanut butter treats. I'd rather be out 4 bucks than wait around for some "big business" people to decide to do the right thing.

So glad I caught this thread, I hadn't even considered that Daizys treats could be in danger! Thanks for the warning!

Kind of off topic of dog treats, but they are saying peanut butter is ok. I personally am not trusting it. We use Jiff, anyone else worried about regular peanut butter, or am I paraniod?

OMG! If they take JIFF away ~ my world will come to an end! I swear it will! I live on JIFF! LOL

This recall is not only scarey, it's life altering! What will I put in my babies Kong now?

Seriously, I'm glad to be on RAW now. No treats or kibble to be worried about. I will be spreading the news to friends though.

Thanks for the warnings!!!!!!

I think I need to seriously look into RAW or homecooking! It looks like JIFF is ok, according to their website they do not purchase anything from the company in question. I also use Jiff and have not been worried about it.

While there are still human products being added to the recall list on a daily basis, I have not seen any more dog treats recalled. I would not assume that means they are ok, though. I would definately check the websites of your treat manufacturer. Most will have a note that they are definately not involved with Peanut Corp. recall. If they do not have a message like that, I would be hesitant to use their peanut butter flavored products for now. I checked Old Mother Hubbard (Wellness), and they say their products are NOT involved with this recall.
