It's a dog, not a baby!

I think Gus might argue with you about that! LOL

I am aware that I have a dog, not a baby, thanks...

There are several new studies suggesting that it is not bad for their skin to bathe furry children often as long as you're not using the stuff you buy at Wal-Mart that will most definitely strip their coats. I use a very mild shampoo and conditioner and his coat looks great, the Vet concurs!

As far as my future skin babies, they will be bathed more often than once or twice a week...you might want to start considering your analogies more carefully ;)

Elvis is my baby, some people think thats odd but many on boxer world would agree with me and Gus's Teah!

I bathe Elvis twice a week, and vet said it is no probs unless he starts to get dry skin / dandruff.

We bathe him about once or twice a week. We use mild, natural shampoo from www.barknbath.com, and we condition him with moisturizing conditioner. His coat looks and smells great always! We bathe him so often because my husband has allergies that Gus sets off...our vet says that it's fine as long as we aren't seeing dry or flaky skin, which we aren't.
wich one do you use? sent?

We bathe Brutus about once a week. Twice if he gets really dirty. He's never had a problem with dry skin. His coat is very nice and shiny. We use a special shampoo from the vet called Oxydex. I love the scent. It smells just like the stuff the vet bathes my cats in. They only get groomed about every three months or so though.

Shampoo and Conditioner

Shampoo: We used to use the ginger and orange scent, but they are currently reformulating that one. For now, we are using the lavender scent and it smells GREAT! When you first open it, you'll think the smell is strong, but it's just right...don't let Gus know that I told everyone that I use lavender scented shampoo on him though, his masculinity might be threatened and he's already struggling with that one since losing his balls on Wednesday ;) LOL We also use the lavender, mint and ginger-orange perfumes in between bath times.

Conditioner: Currently we use Head & Shoulders dry scalp conditioner, simply because it's very moisturizing and it's what I use, so it's convenient. If bark n bath would make conditioners bath time would be perfect :)

Bath time is fun!

We don't bathe Natas very often, because he doesn't really get dirty often, However we do use those doggy wipes on him and I will wash his face about once a week (eye boogies are crazy!) He is 5 months and I have given him one "real" bath and one "half bath". What I do is take out the bath mat (it had ducks on it and it scares him) and then run the water. I close the bathroom door and just let him walk around in the bathroom for a minute, then I start to play in the water act like I am having the best time ever. He of course came over to investigate and then I let him lick my fingers with the water on them. After a few minutes I placed his front legs in and then his back. He was so consumed by drinking the water that he missed the bath altogether. Last night his paws were caked in mud and I couldn't just wipe them off, so I started the bath and then started to play and he jumped right in! He started drinking and licking the washcloth. He licks the wash clothe when I wipe his face too. I think he loves warm water! Each furkid will be different, but I found that the playtime/bathtime thing worked well for us!

We've haven't "bathed" Justice since we got her (last June). She's had her feet washed many times and we use the baby wipes on her all the time.

I do think she needs one now though. It's not really warm enough (when I get home) to do one outside. Any suggestions on how to coax a 60 lb boxer into a tiny little bathtub at home? Or should we just drop by Petco and do the "do it yourself" wash?

I love that name, (Maggie), bet she is a doll. I had a hard time with bathing my previous boxer (Samson), but found the way to get him to start enjoying it. The bath mat is a great idea, we all know boxers can be a little less than graceful sometimes, and it can only be worse (and a bit scary for them) on a slippery surface. Once they feel sure they won't fall, that is a good start. The best thing to do is start slowly, and keep talking in a soothing voice and praising them, even if they fight you and try to take off, the worst thing you can do is to show irritation in your voice. (Even if you are covered in suds!!) The main thing is to keep the treats handy, offer then consistently, so your dog will view bath time as a positive experience! Give a little extra massage, scratches in their favorite spots, and make them see it is nice to get all that attention!! It is a good idea to just cover the bathroom floor with towels, I am sure I am not the only one whose boxer likes to dry himself, he will wallow around and roll on the towels until he feels dry, and then we blow him dry the rest of the way. Some dogs might not go for that, mine LOVES it though! I use a good oatmeal formula on the body and use a tearless formula on his head and in the face wrinkles!! Good luck with your new baby!!!! :)

I don't think it should matter to anyone else how often you bathe your dog, am I wrong? As long as it's not hurting them, bathe away if you want to!
