We need help! Pacha our new puppy is 7 weeks. We dont crate her but we have a room for her that is a good size for her. She barks and cries in the night because she wants to be with my husband and I. What can we do? We dont want her to get accustomed to our bed. What can we do so she wont be barking? Please help!!

Barking at Night!!

Your best bet..would be to purchase a crate. Boxers love to be around people..and if she knows..you are in another room...she's not gonna like that too much. We have a boxer puppy..who sleeps in his crate..in our bedroom...and once he realizes..hes not alone..he goes to sleep fine.

Your puppy..is probably barking...because she is alone..in another room...which they dont like.

I would really suggest...getting a crate...and get her used to that...and put in the bedroom with you guys.

Is there any reason, you dont want a crate? or in the room with you? ...I can understand not wanting her to get used to the bed.. but she's a baby...and wants to be near you guys.

good luck..

Why wouldn't she bark? She's a baby and completely away from you, I wouldn't blame her for barking and crying. I would also suggest getting a crate with a soft bed and some toys, put it next to your bed. Of course, she will cry for the first few days or weeks, but I promise she will adjust.
All the crying and barking comes with adding a new baby into your lives, just as a real baby would.

Just make sure you take her potty at least 3 times in the middle of the night. Maybe put a yummy treat in with her every time she goes back in the crate. This is what I did and eventually they looked forward to going back in there.

Good luck and keep us updated ;)

We had to just ignore Edgar. As hard as it was. When he was really small we had a friends crate in our teen's room. Later we moved him into a larger crate in the living room when he got comfortable with his space and toys. We left the tv or radio on when we left and always gave a kong. Now, he sleeps in his bed that used to be in his crate, in the living room and we block him off in the kitchen during the day (I want to give him roam of the house because he is 2 1/2 but we are just now easing into that.

I agree completely. This baby needs to be closer and then eventually you can move the crate/pup to another room to sleep. Mine, as pups, stayed in the bedroom at night until they were about 4 months old and it certainly made potty training easier :) . Good luck

I used a small box, next to my side of the bed. I would place the puppy in the box. When she would wimper, I could just place my hand on her and she'd settle right down. My problem at the time was, she was cold. I would put her next to me to warm up and then place her back down in the box. I did this for a while until I put a small electric blanket in the box set on the lowest setting. After that, she never woke up in the night.

Looking back, I guess and electric blanket is not the safest. But she was right next to me and I could hear her if she woke up.

She learned that being confined was not bad so she quickly took to the crate easily when she was a little older.

I wish I'd done that with Ginger when she was younger, I remember months of her bellowing from the crate, and us getting no sleep.

We went through the same thing..... so we crated her in our bedroom. Eventally we moved the crate to the bedroom across from ours. She can still see us.. The first night she did bark and whine, but now she is fine- and we finally have walking room in the bedroom!

We have been using the crate... but it was funny, last night Keeta woke up and DH took her out. He took out her pillow (dont know why) and placed her back in telling her night night. He came to bed and she howled and yelped and barked. I got up and put the pillow back in her crate said night night and came back to bed and shook my head at him...lol, we did not her another word until she was ready to go out again.

Any way... we just brought Keeta home 5 days ago (she is 7wks & 5days old) and already she is content in her crate but only with her pillow in with her and we always tell her "night night" so she will learn that its bed time.

But your pup is going to adjust... it might been in a couple of days or weeks.

I would suggest a crate... its not like caging them up... it is their safe place, their indoor puppy house. We leave it open when we are home and place her in when we are gone.
