If Roxannes lump is again malignant I am going to place her on a natural diet. I have been switching to Innova but I might as well just go all the way. What I have read so far is for the diet to be quote " lower carbohydrates, raise fats, and use good quality protein." Humm, pretty vague. I guess I have alot of reading and research to do. I definitely want what is best for her.

Hi Janine

My understanding with cancer diets is that you need to eliminate almost all carbohydrates from the diet as the cancers feed on carbohydrates. A BARF diet fits the bill perfectly.

I hope the lump is benign. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and Roxanne. :)

Yes, it is thought (perhaps known) that cancer cells feed on sugars - which means no grains but also no sugary vegetables (this is primarily root vegetables - beets, carrots, sweet potatoes, etc.) and no fruits. I think that www.grainfreepets.com has an article on cancer & diet, and I know I just saw something on one of my e-mail lists about it - I'll see if I can find that link tomorrow. This was also a recent discussion on the Show Boxer list.

Thanks for the links and info. I was reading the info about Dr Ogilvie and the research that he did and how to avoid sugars. (I had this huge argument with my boss about the sugar level of potatoes that went on for weeks!) The diet makes sense for humans as well. High quality protein, no root vegtables, larger quantity of kale products. Innova looks good except the 4th ingrediant is potatoes. Also I am bringing a young pup into the house soon and I will have to be careful since their diet needs will be so different. Well I will at least wait until our appointment tomorrow and hope this is all just a mute point!

Hi Janine~~
Sorry to hear that your little one is not feeling well. :(
I've read through the links provided for you by others and there are some great resources for helping with prevention and with the effects of chemo and other treatments.
Speaking from personal experience, I have to say that echineacia and essiac tea have proven not effective at all in the prevention and curative abilities for Cancer. Echinacea is not approved by the FDA and there have been many reports that it acts effectively moreso due to the vitamin C added to many of the preparations, (not all), than the echinacea itself, or through the bodies own ability to fight off colds, (which is what the product is marketed as; a cold preparation where there is no cure for a common cold).
Also, willow bark, (or white willow bark), is an aspirin preparation and should only be given with the advice of a qualified vet as dosages for pets are quite different than dosages for humans.
Betacarotenes are great as well but keeping in mind that vitamins A and E are fat soluable vitamins, it's good to get an exact dosage based on body weight by your vet.
And finally, garlic is a great immune system booster as well.
The raw food diets reccomended to you by others who have responded will help greatly with getting your little one back on track healthwise.
Afterall, nutrition we put in is what we can expect to get out. :)
There are some great reference books in the archives to get started on feeding a raw diet that would be great to check out including nutritional healing books.
I hope Roxanne is feeling great soon.
All the best.

Thank you, I will have to check it out. BTW, Roxannes lump has almost all gone away. I hate to panic everytime I see one but it is best to be safe and get it right away.
