where do these people get there info from.
As far as I can tell, everyone is still using the 1994 report from the CDC on dog bite statistics. Unfortunately, the stats are horribly skewed since not every bite is reported, only the serious bites. Also if the dog is a mixed breed, they require the owners to "pick" the dominant breed. :( Not very good stats.

There hasnt been a significant study made with the right control factors. And quite frankly as long as the stupid legislation can be passed they will not put forth the money to get a good study done. Perhaps if people would band together and sponsor such a study, we would have a scientific study that was verifiable and defendable.

As long as the legislation continues to point the finger at one breed or another, then our breed will always be in danger of getting on that list. The only breeds that seem to be exempt are the ones under 25lbs. ;)

What worries me about all this is that if these breeds get banned people are going to resort to hiding their animals which in turn will cause the animals to not get propper care or vaccinnes like rabies. If they are viscious dogs who then contracts rabies it could cause a huge problem. Not to mention having an outbreak of disease putting all other animals at risk :(

I think that since 'ignorance of the law' is no excuse, neither should 'ignorance of breeds' be an excuse;). I think that it is a violation of rights for officials to ban boxers, or any other breed for that matter. Poodles are just as dangerous as Pitts and regardless of breeds, any dog can be viscious.

In the townhomes where I live, you can't have Pit Bulls, Rotts, Chows, Dobermans, or Dalmations because they considered them dangerous. Boxers thank goodness aren't on the list. I think people should be educated about breeds and responsible pet ownership rather than put restrictions on owning them. I used to have a neighbor who ran screaming from my two dogs everytime she saw them and it aggrivated me (and my boxer Jagger was only 3 months old!) Her husband told me she just didnt "like" them, and that nothing bad had ever happened to her involving a dog. I don't get it...

My 16 pound boston is 10 times more likely to seriously hurt someone than my 60 pound boxer!! Size has nothing to do with it... :)

They could never ban boxers in my town!

Too many of us own and love our boxers. There would be a riot at city hall should that ever happen!

Why don't officials just put criminal charges on the owners of dogs who have shown aggression in the past and then hurts someone in the future. Most of the aggressive dogs that hurt people are because the dogs don't get the right exercise, they were never socialized to other people/animals, they let their dogs completely run the house, or are cruel to the animal. Wouldn't people be less likely to ignore an aggression problem (with any breed) if they were held accountable?

Banning breeds is stupid - an ex-neighbor had this little yappy dog that would chase down my kids if they ran by because they would never take him on a walk and he was never taken outside except to go to the bathroom. Any dog with aggression is a problem - not just large breeds.

Neither could they ban it here. Literally the house right across the street, the house behind me that borders my property, the house across from that house, and there's 3 other boxers all within 1000yds of my house that I know of. I have never seen so many boxers in my life in one community. I swear Manchester NH should be called Boxertown USA. I wonder how you go about finding out if any propostions have been made with regards to banning a breed (with out going to every city council meeting that is)

I am shocked to hear of boxers being on the list.... I have never heard of that there was an article in a popular boxer magazine ( dont know if I am allowed to name which one ) about a month ago about how badly bred boxers from byb look more and more like pitbulls and so many people have a hard time telling the difference between them and a police man in a town that has a ban on pitbulls saw a couple out walking there boxer who they adopted from a local rescue pulled over and took the dog from them and when the couple tried to tell him to call the rescue he refused long article short it had to go to a judge their poor baby was locked up for weeks and finally they convinced them it was a boxer and they gave them their dog back... Can you believe that!

When I posted before about them banning the Rott's, Pitt's & Doberman's in my county I had a question to ask and forgot to. They, being county council, require you to double chain your dog on chain that meets certain requirements while within your 6 foot tall fenced in backyard, would this not make this animal more mean/vicious? It seems to me that it would. I am by no means an animal expert just a person owned by a boxer! My 12 lb Boston Terror, Cookie is horrible if I have to put her on a leash & hold her while my husband walks Rascal & IT is just a leash. I couldn't imagine a chain!
