Jamie just phoned me with an update.
The emergency vet gave Jamie the name of another vet which she contacted today.
Bailey is at this time undergoig surgery to put a pin in his leg. Jamie is very positive about the surgery and really likes this new vet. Jamie is understandably nervous but still upbeat and expecting good results from this surgery.
Please continue to keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
I will keep everyone updated tomorrow as she contacts me.

Jamie has very good news.
Bailey came out of the surgery with flying colors!! He has three pins in his leg, one of which will stay in permanantly. He will be in the vet hospital for a week but the vet is very optomistic that the surgery was a success and that the leg will straighten out.appicon
I have forwarded all of your well wishes to Jamie and Joe and they want to thank everyone for your kind words and prayers.
They also found out today that Joe will get next assignment in 7 weeks, which means another move.
They are really hoping to stay in Fl. for awhile as Joe2 is due to start school Aug.4th.
Please continue to keep them in your prayers.

So glad things are working out for Bailey. Our thoughts will be with you all.
I hope the surgery goes well. I would like to post this incase anyone is faced with the decision to have to amputate. Our boxer Cajun was hit by a car when he was 1 1/2 his right rear leg was completely destroyed and could not be saved. We went to two orthopedic vets. I consulted both of them about what kind of quality of life he could expect if the leg was amputated and was assured that it would be good. I can tell you that good was an understatement. It is now a year later and he is absolutely the most playful and active dog I have ever owned. I know all circumstances are different but if anyone ever has to choose between amputation and putting a dog to sleep please keep this in mind.
It is amazing to me that a vet would imply that amputation may be a better option than surgery because the surgery may not be successful. We don't amputate our limbs when a break has trouble healing! We do what the second vet did: pins, plates, etc. Sheesh. You can always amputate later if, in fact, the surgery wan't successful - but you sure can't undo the amputation if it turns out surgery would have worked! And, I totally agree that quality of life after amputation can be great! I don't think I'd ever put one of my babies down because of an amputation. I just don't agree that you'd amputate before trying surgery! I'm so glad the surgery went well - best wishes coming your way from my crew!!
