Bad Breath

Anyone have any ideas or treats that can help combat bad breath. Brittany has some terrible smelling breath especially in the mornings. She sleeps with her head nearly on mine and that smell is too much to take in the AM. She is currently on Wellness, switching to Canidae this week, hopefully that can help some.

I have always heard that aside form just after meals that a dogs breath shouldn't smell bad and if it does it may mean there is an underlying health issue.

How old is your dog? How are her teeth? You might want to let the vet know about this and see what they say. I had a cat that had renal faliure for 4 years and the first sign that anything was wrong was her terrible breath.

Not trying to worry you, hopefully there is nothing wrong with Brittany. I suppose it could just be "morning breath!" After my girl eats her dinner which includes a little canned food I don't even want to go near her it smells that bad. Any other time though there is no smell, good or bad. She eats alot of edible bones and has great teeth but of course she is still young.

Cody also had really bad breath. Getting his teeth cleaned once a year helped a lot. One time they found a rotten tooth that was affecting his breath.

Getting her teeth cleaned will help if you are not doing that already.

I think the Canidae will help in this area. Susie had terrible breath which made me not want to give her kisses when I first got her. Since she's been on Canidae, she has not smell to her breath at all, just like Maggie & Rider.

Teeth brushing helps as well. Plus will save you big $$ not having to have the vet clean your dog's teeth.

She is 6 months old today, she is in perfect health so far and teeth look great. Her stanky breath is more often after she eats her Wellness, it has that fishy smell. She goes in for her spay in 2 weeks so I will bring it up to the vet.

perhaps the food switch will help. our puppy is on california natural, and has no smell whatsoever to his breath, so nice he also chews on his nylabones quite often, which help clean his teeth, and probably also helps with this breath...

My guys bad breath cleared up with Natural Balance. It is now sweet smelling (LOL if that is at all possible).
