My little girl turned one years old on the 30th of December and let me tell you things have not changed. I just learned that they go through an adolesence phase and I saw the difference in her behavior then but she is One now and she is still acting like a puppy. By this I mean still having accidents in the house!! This morning we were only up for about 20 mins before she decided she had to go in the house and go figure it was a day when I had no carpet cleaner! She also still goes potty in her crate sometimes and we even put the divider back in. Why is she doing this? We phrase her so much everytime she goes out and she knows she is bad when she goes in the house. I'm moving in the next week the place has BRAND NEW CARPET...I dont want to have to deal with pee on this carpet too. I've done tons of positive reinforcement but it doesnt seem to be working. She is only away for 5 hours a day because I work part time and we dont want her crated all day. The only other issue we had was her running away from us but i solved that by keeping her on a leash. She used to stay by our sides but now she thinks everything is a game. She'll run full blast up to people and of course they are scared of her but she doesnt understand that. If anyone has any suggestions for the potty mistakes I would appreciate it. I feel like i've done everything to teach her not to do it:-(

Obedience classes

Hi, I feel your pain :-( Have you tried to put her in obedience classes? That's what Im going to do with my 12 weeks old Rascal. It strenghtens your bond and she will learn how to listen to you. And about the accidents in the house, maybe she has an urinary track infection (???) and cannot control her bladder? I would recommend taking her to the vet to get her checked out. I hope I helped. =)

Peeing in the house is usually not part of adolescent behavior. I would wonder about a UTI too and would certainly want that ruled out. If she doesn't have a UTI, then she doesn't understand that she is supposed to pee outside. I would go back to the beginning with potty training. Take her out frequently and reward her when she goes outside and I do mean go out with her. Rewarding her when she comes back in doesn't work. Then you are rewarding her for coming back in, not for peeing outside.

Good luck!

She hasn't had her cylce yet which I think is weriod. She can hold her urion she does it all the time. Maybe I made it seem like she does it all time which isnt the case but it the times where i expect her to hold it she does it. Awhile back I read on here they can hold it one hour for however months old they are. So if they are 6 months then she could hold it for 6 hours. Maybe thats not the case I'm not too sure. I dont know what other symptoms of a UTI she may have but other than going in the house. I can take her to the docs but I'm not sure if that what it is. Thanks for your help though.

It sounds like adolescence to me :) Also, from a behavioral standpoint, it would probably help a tremendous deal if you spay her. Why isn't she spayed yet? From a health standpoint, spaying her is the very best thing you can do for her health. Intact females are at increased risk of a potentially fatal disease called pyometra, tumors of the reproductive tract and mammary cancer, to name a few. Here is a short article on the benefits of spaying:

I also think it's a good idea to have the vet check her for a UTI, to be on the safe side. Good luck

We got our first boxer when I was ten. I am now 57, am alone for the first time in thirty years, and decided to get two boxers to fill my life. Boy, have they filled it. I got two females from the same litter. We went thru the potty issue, and when I moved from the condo, they were four months old. I had to replace the carpet which only had been in there for four years. We moved into a very nice 7 year old house, and they are now 14 months old. I had the carpet torn out and had laminate floors put in. They no longer have accidents because I had the french doors taken out and had a slider with a doggie door. They finally can come and go as they deem necessary. I was not able to do that before but it was like a miracle. They quit having accidents and mommy is so much happier. My experience with boxers is that they are puppish until they are around 3. Hang on for the ride. In my new house, they chewed the walls, stairway spindles, wood window shelve, as well as ruining the carpet. They knew when I would react to their messes that they had done something that I didn't like, and they have now moved on to other entertainment. Keep them busy. Lots of chew stuff and toys.

All in all, I wouldn't change anything about them. They are treasures. They give me way more than I could give them. Once you get them past the destructive age, there are no other dogs like them. The to I have now are so loving and comical. I wouldn't change anything about them if I could, but then, I knew what to expect when I got them because of the boxer we had when I was young. Good luck, get a sense of humor, and love them no matter what -- it's like raising a two year old.

Before you say she is a bad girl, maybe take her to the vet to have a urinalysis done. Be sure that she doesn't have a bladder infection. My girl is 4 yrs and she started having bladder infections as 6 months and they are a recurrent problem for her even now. I would rule out a UTI first.
