Boxer Pal
Hello -
My 7 year old boxer, Hector, has recently been showing signs of what we think are seizure like symptoms. Early one morning my fiance, Josh, was getting ready for work when he knocked over a fan near Hector's bed. Hector being easily spooked jumped up and away (even though it was no where close to hitting him). When my fiance looked at him he was starting to fall over a bit almost like he was losing his balance. Josh was able to hold him up and get him sitting but hector seemed dazed for a few minutes after. We had a similar incident again when Hector got excited from police lights outside the house. Now we have had a few more incidents and it is looking like it is getting worse. When he walks on our hardwood floors now it is almost like his back legs are about to slip out from under him. When he jumps off of the furniture his legs just don't have the stability it used to.
The most recent two incidents have been the worst. He was excited because he thought someone was at the door (we were at his "grandparents" house who also own 2 other dogs that he spends a lot of time with) and when he ran back from looking at the door all the dogs sort of tangled up and we saw hectors back legs completely go out and he starts falling to the floor and onto his side. We always make sure to run to him and try and ease him to the ground and sit there with him for a few minutes until he looks likes he's not so spaced out anymore. This exact thing happened again when he got spooked from a lamp falling.
I am not sure what to do. He doesn't seem in pain but he also doesn't seem like his old self. We noticed this all started happening right after I had my son. I am not sure if this could be linked or not but thought it could be relevant information. The vet thinks he could potentially just be getting old or that he has a heart issue and believes he is having seizures when this happens but I am not fully convinced. He recently recovered from a terrible throat infection that we thought was going to possibly take Hector's life. These episodes started happening right after that. He still eats his treats but takes down half the amount of food a day that he used to. He never runs around anymore or asks to play. He just cuddles up to me and baby and sleeps most of the day away.
I am so sorry this is so long but this is my Fiance's best friend and as much as I hurt to see my poor dog like this it is killing Josh. If anyone has any advice or seen anything like this before any words of wisdom are greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
