hi i hope sum1 can reply tnite, i was playin with my george earlier today and ever since hes been screemin when he stands on a certain part of his leg, i dont know exactly where, i think mayb he has pulled a muscle while playin. he can walk and run, but it seems this pain is Intermittent, can any1 help? thanks

Poor George :( If it were me I'd take him to the vet ASAP - when they scream in pain it really needs medical attention. Do you have an emergency clinic near you? There are so many things this could be, ligaments, hips, back ...

I took princess to the leash free park yesterday and noticed the same thing....but she's not screeming in pain. Hopefully it's just a sore muscle from running and playing with all those other dogs for 3 hours....Hopefully it's just a sore muscle for your poor little one too!!!

The same thing happened to my Max. The vet said he could have torn his
ACL ligament. We are taking him for tests next week and he may require
surgery if he did in fact tear this ligament. You should get it checked out.
This is around the knee area and we couldn't pin point it at first as it was
also intermittent, but when we went to the vet he caught it right away.
Not to scare you he could have just sprained something. I am sure keeping
my fingers crossed that we don't have to face surgery with Max.

Do a search on here for crutiate ligament and TPLO
TPLO is the name of the procedure used to repair the torn crutiate ligament. It stands for tibial plateau levelling osteotomy.
If your dog has torn the crutiate ligament then surgery is the only answer. It will not heal itself with rest.
This is a very common Boxer problem - in fact a common problem for large active dogs.
It is usually caused by too much exertion. ie, chasing after balls, sticks or frisbees. When you are ready to throw they are dancing around in front of you and then do a standing sprint start to chase the ball - that is when the damage is done.
My Billy has had to have both his knees repaired with a total of 4 ops. I will NEVER throw sticks or balls for my dogs again. Billy is 7 and now can only take walks on the lead - no mad running about - he has arthritis in his knees and can't jump up into the car - my hubby has to lift him.
If you think your dog may have injured his rear leg then you must take him to the vet and get referred to a specialist.

well i took him to the vets yesterday, he has hurt his spine. The vet said we might have caught it early enough b4 it ruptures, i have had to buy a cage and he has to stay in it for 5 days, only to be let out 2 go about his business :( - the vet said if the pain doesnt ease off or gets worse then take him back. Lucky enough he seems to be coping well, he hasnt screamed since the vet injected him yesterday, gotta give him anti inflamitorys until next week, I just hope he is going to be ok. Things are going well at the moment, he is gettin his cheerful face back - If this doesnt work he might have to have a spinal operation which will cost us a £1000 at least & the vet said we could lose him :(. we spent all afternoon crying yesterday.
a word to the wise, if your boxer jumps up all the time, STOP him/her now. This is why i am in such a mess now

Jamie - I'm so sorry to hear that George has a spinal injury and REALLY hope that bed rest will heal it.
I'm sending you lots of healing vibes and Billy is sending LOTS of Boxer slobber to help the healing process. Because of the ops Billy has had on his knees I feel I know a little of what you're going through.

One of my Boxers, Bo, dislocated his back when he was around 8 years old. He was jumping up into the air to catch his ball and just crashed to the ground screaming. He lost the use of his back legs. The vet initially wanted to put him down, but we refused. Anyway, to cut a long story short, we took it in turns having morning and afternoons off work (nearly lost our jobs over this) so one of us would always be home with him. We would massage him frequently and help him outside when needed. After a couple of weeks he could stand on his own and after a couple of months he was back to normal. He had a slight limp on his back right leg after this, but was as active as ever. As he got a little older there was some slight knuckling over of the back right foot (mainly when he was tired). He lived to 14.5 years of age
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.

hey peeps, thanks for the replies, ur such kind people. I took george to the vets and his back is now better,. he didnt do any serious damage thank god :o - but now he has kennel cough :( i cant believe my luck, im gettin married this coming saturday and he is meant to be going into kennels, do u think he will be ok? im worried now.

If he has KC the kennel probably won't take him - do you have a friend who could take him while you are away.
I am glad the back injury has healed, my female Nessa had a similar injury recently and time and rest were the only thing that would work she is back to her normal self now
